Subject: Re: Cordyceps sinensis
Hello All

Here comes the meat based media I use with Cordyceps species:

25 g meat extract (meat stock cubes are equally good)
5 g malt extract (we use cheap bulk stuff direct from malt house)
2,5 g yeast extract
5 g peptone
10 g dextrose anhydrate
5 g casein
2,5 g tryptone
3 g CaSO4 (gypsum)

+ 5 ppm Zn & 20 ppm P (from salts like ZnSO4 and KH2PO4)

-> 1 liter distilled water
-> pH 6,3 after sterilization

I don't have any good references about Cordyceps cultivation. We started by
imitating the chemical structure of larvae (made analysis by plasmaemission
spectrometer and CHN analyzer) and next we analyzed the culture media before
and after fermentation to find out which elements were limiting the growth
(Zn & P).

About fermentation systems, we use 10 and 20 liters polycarbonate bottles
that have been modified as an airlift fermenters. We use 0,2 um filters and
aquarium pumps (10 liters/min) to provide enough oxygen and mixing. Used air
goes out through an ethanol bottle.

At the moment we are just starting to use a 1000 liters fermenter with
mechanical mixing and pressurized air system. That's why I'm very interested
in getting the culture of C. sinensis as soon as possible. (Don't need that
much shiitake inoculum)

By the way, if someone has a good (and cheap) tecnique to produce capsules or
tablets from mycelial pellets, any information will be greatly appreciated.
Also, what would be the best mill to pulverize dried mycelium?

I didnt think they could be cultivated. Unless you have an ant farm or something. They grow from infected bugs. as seen here cordy growing

Maybe have a cage full of acceptable insects then just hose them with a spore syringe?

"Theres literally thousands of species of cordyceps" says the british dude in the video

Hi Amnuay ,

Detailed explanations on artificial cultivation of Cordyceps militaris can be found here:
