Pan subbs in their habitat (pics)
    #1581614 - 05/27/03 01:41 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

After a request for some pictures of the pan subbs in their natural habitat, I decided to take my camera to my patch and take some photos. I found a total of about 20 mushrooms, there were more, however I was on a time schedule. I also had to cut out alot because of the upload limit. :frown:

A nice pan subb along with an old one to the back right.

Two fresh pan subbs growing together.

Two more pan subbs growing together along with a destroyed one.

A bunch of old pan subbs that had been rained on.

Two good quality pan subbs growing side by side.

Looks almost identical to the habitat that I found them in...

Basically the cleanings of dirt, straw, wood shavings and manure out of horse stables which they would dump in the back!

Out of curiosity, nermski, were these found on a private farm? I'd love to go hunting but I don't want to trespass and I also feel silly asking a farmer if I can walk on his land.

It's actually just a fenced in wood area with a horse stable and a horse. There used to be two horses in there, however, I think one of them was transferred. They periodically shovel all of the dung into a huge pile, but I usually find the subbalteatus in the horse droppings.

megaman, lets try to keep the mushroom hunting and identification talk in the mushroom hunting forum
and keep the gathering and get-together talk in the gathering forum ok.?
- the forums new rules ask not to solicit anyone to/or make plans for get-togethers in the hunting forum.
 do it at the gathering forum and private messages instead, thanks.

GGreatOne, I wasn't inviting him to go hunting with me. I was stating that I would love to go hunting (in general) but I am weary of asking a farmer or trespassing. I wasn't suggesting that we go hunting together. I was trying to say that I hope that he found these subbs on nonprivate property, so that I may look on nonprivate property in my own area.

I live in middle georgia. For those that don't remember, here are the beautiful pan subbs I found last fall. You can tell the difference in quality between these and the ones posted earlier.

I board my horsie at my trainer's farm and might go pan subb hunting soon. I was wondering how many you would have to eat to trip because of their lower potency than cubes....also, I read the FAQ and did some other research on pan subbs and have found that there are several deadly look alikes. I was wondering also what would distinguish a poisonous one from a good one. I looked at some pics with deadly ones growing near and can't tell the difference at all. Thanks.

out of curiousity, how would you pose the question to this answer? i'm interested to hear what scenarios/approaches have yielded the most favourable responses from farm owners. any input here would certainly loosen my nerves.

Yeah, I was just about to ask the same thing. How do you ask someone if you can walk around their backyard without it sounding rude or suspicious? Asking them to look at their bales of straw is one thing, but asking them to walk around their yard seems odd at best. But of course, that's where the libcaps would be, damn :-( Since they lived on a farm their whole life, I wonder how many farmers are actually aware of magic mushtooms. I think the press mainly focuses on marijuana, and most people who know about magic mushrooms are city slickers who don't have to work with cows in a field all day.

yesterday i asked an owner of a suburban (although quite city-like) horse ranch if i could perhaps look around his property for mushrooms. he answered that there are no mushrooms on his property, and if there were, the horses would have eaten them. so i said ok, and then i saw the same species of Amanita as in my Amanita post, and asked him if i could get. reluctantly he let me go into his land for a few minutes while standing closeby and looking around. he was very uncooperative and almost condescending.

i think people in the country would be better about it. although you cant just say that, it all matters from owner to owner. the truth doesnt always work...

See at triding stables all of the employees are people friendly. I have asked for permission most of my life, althoughh I have wandered into many fields woityhout permission but in fields where no one would see me from a road.

Last year Roadkill and I went into a few fields. When we came out there was a state trooper fifty yards down the road hassling someone, but he didn't bother us.
