New Constitutional Amendment

It's up to senate to knock this down now, yes it's made it past house. It looks like Big Bro wants to help us all be patriots, by outlawing flag desicration. I'm not exactly a flag-burning Kind of guy, but if this passes I'll host a flag burning protest here in GA, and I hope you all do too in your own home town. Maybe even a DC burning march.

Personally... I think flag burners should be killed, raped, beaten, and then eaten. In that order.
That being said however, the ammendment is a piss poor idea.

Hmmm... I like the constitution. I think that an Amendment that is in direct conflict with the current Constitution is very bad idea, and very hypocrytical.

i wonder what shall be called a "flag". what about burning a flag with only 12 stripes? will it be ok to burn a flag with no stars on it? any red white and blue object? what about burning a big papier mache statue of liberty or a bald eagle? this is ridiculous... hmm... what if it looks like a US flag, but upon closer inspection, it could actually be a french flag? maybe that would be ok. i wonder if it'll be against the law to cut a flag up with scissors... or put it on the ground and step on it... spitting on it? refusing to salute it?

I believe the term that was used is flag desecration, IE anything they feel is disrespectful or harmful to the flag. Letting it touch the ground, stepping on it, improper disposal, burning, whatever the zealots feel is right at the time.

I remember when I was little and some teacher said that if one day they ever outlawed flag burning, it meant that we now lived in a fascist dictatorship. I have absolutely no respect for this government anymore. I bet more than anything if they ban flag burning there will be people marching in the streets burning flags. Or I'd at least like to see that, kind of like a big spiteful fuck you to the government.

Establish a law against flag desecration? Isn't that the equivalent of establishing a state religion? The burning of the flag (or stomping on it, etc.) is an act of political protest, this country was established by people who all betrayed their country (Great Britain) and I'm sure that some of them treated the British flag in a disrespectful manner. This is actually a most unpatriotic law and contravenes the spirit of the founding of this country and the letter of it's charter (specifically the first amendment).
It disgusts me that people would hold a symbol in higher regard than the constitution that is the basis of this country. As Rush Limbaugh would say (but not in this instance because he is a hypocrite) SYMBOLISM OVER SUBSTANCE (the flag over the constitution).
-------------------- To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.' Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence. Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains. Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

What about bands that burn their flang on stage like Rage Against The Machine (too bad they're done ), or Marilyn Manson who at every show wiped his ass with the red, white, and blue? Are they gonna get arrested? This law was proposed about a decade ago but it didn't pass, let's hope they boot it again.
