So I can no longer tag on w/ the group at my college backpacking. My next option is to go solo Should I do it? Keep in mind if JUST started to get experience with backpacking.

Oh man, bummer dude. I think short solo outings are OK for the new/unexperienced hiker. Just always study your map/trail and bring more water/food/warm clothing than you think you need incase some shit goes down. Week/month long expeditions are a different story.
As a solo hiker, I'd worry about people fucking with me more so than the surrounding nature. I tend to carry a knife or maglite just in case
Have you thought about starting a group of your own? I'm the "Treasurer" of the "Grind Core Appreciation Society" at my college and I don't do A DAMN THING You might be able to meet new people in the process. Are you near the AT?

Do it alone, just prepare. Tell someone where you are going. Plan your routes safely. Read some survival books.

Go for it, as long as you are hiking where there are no predators to humans and weather doesn't change dramatically. I have hiked a few high peaks in the Adirondacks by myself. It's a different experience. You have to carry way more gear in your pack that you could have divided up with a group.
Start small, 3 miles deep where you still get cell service in an emergency.
The most important thing about hiking alone is to not take chances where personal injury may happen. Even a minor injury like twisting an ankle will make those three miles out a living hell.

I love solo packing. Just be smart, be safe, and plan well. Always let someone know where you'll be and when you'll be back. And just don't bite off more then you can chew for your skill level. Even an overnighter just a few miles in can be very rewarding by yourself.

I loved red rock canyon when I hiked through part of it in search of borough (spelled wrong I know)
After two days, my pops and I ran out of water and had to hike out. We could here those damn donkeys everywhere, but I never saw one in person.

I'm actually about to buy a water filter =D. I'm still a tad hesitant...mind you I would be in the redwood forest alone. As trippy and beautiful as it may be, it's pitch black at night with how massive the trees are. I think I would be less spooked in a less dense forest allowing some moonlight =P. Still I might have to man up and just go for it

Why don't you just boil your water?
The only reason I hate doing that is because it takes so damn long to cool. But I bet if you had a waterproof container you could throw it in a lake for a bit to cool off, just leave some air.

Solo packing can be some of the best and most rewarding, while hiking with others is generally safer, solo hiking is very peaceful and zenlike. At least for me. Like others have said, just be careful and be prepared. If you are a first timer don't go too far backcountry and stay near established trails. Plan well and bring everything you need. Including a first aid kit and the ten essentials at the least. Most of all keep your wits about you and have fun.

Yeah, those damn burros are everywhere up there. People hit them with their cars sometimes because they've learned to hang out along the roadways due to people feeding them.
I walked up on this one while out hiking off-trail. He gave me a look like "Hey buddy, got any Doritios?"

Do it! Scariest thing in the Redwoods is the 'coons. Just know where you are at all times, keep extra food and water on hand, and keep the terrain mellow. Also learn to hang your food, so the critters don't steal it.
Some of my most memorable trips were all solo. I miss those days.
You might also hang a flier down at the local gear store saying you're looking for a trail buddy.

dude, walmart has a highly rated water bottle filter for under $30. they used em in haiti and they are the highest rated filter. go on walmarts website. and as for being in the redwoods all alone, hats off too yuh. i backpack in the northern sequoias with my wife. even though shes a little woman, i feel safe in a little dinky tent among the coyotes, mountain lions, and bears.
