Awesome! Looks like a pretty northern Oudemansiella platensis!
Almost looks like a Fibonacci sequence or fractal pattern on the cap. Very cool find

No, press harder, I find doing it with a toothpick or other fine point works well.

Distinguishing in which way? Cheilocystidia is on the gill edge and pleurocystidia is on the gill face. If you're getting them mixed up in the crush mount you could always cut off the gill edge and scope the part you need. I usually try to not crush it enough that all the cystidia gets mixed up though.

yes, i was confusing them in the mount (i know where they are located). cutting off the gill edge is a great idea. thanks again man!

That second pic especially looks more like a crush mount, I'm not really much help with Oudemansiella though...are you sure those are cystidia rather then basidioles? I still have some trouble telling them apart in some species.

thanks man. to be honest i never even thought about cutting the gill into sections... i'll give it another go tonight... for the most part, do you agree with the micrographs? i found a pretty good paper on Oudemansiella and the micro descriptions match fairly well...
