I dunked one of my new born popcorn cakes and it feel apart, the water turned milky white. Why????
What the hell, nothing seems to go as planed!!!
Can someone please help me??

Well... how long after the surface was completely colonized did you let it incubate for? You must give it time to colonize the middle of the cake as well.

If you're going the cake route, the brown rice flour/vermiculite combo holds together better. Large grains like popcorn aren't meant for cakes.
If I were you, I'd CASE all this colonized popcorn. You'll most likely get a better yield anyway.

Did you dump the water out yet? If you didn't and you can somehow keep the water steril you might be able to get the mycelcium to spawn. Then you can suck it up in a syringe and use the spawn to innoculate more jars.

Ive dunked cakes many many times ive not once seen one fall a part. You gotta be pretty mean to em for them to break open. Brown rice verm cakes atleast.
Only cakes ive had just flat our crumble on me where ones where the middle was infected.
If the substrate is still useablle. Strain it out and make a cainsg out of it.

well instead of wasting it just draw up a syringe of the milky water and there u go u got ur self more juice to do many more it aint that much of a loss.

i doubt mushrooms will fruit on a cake made of just popcorrn. its been used for casing sucessfully, never heard of fuiting off a 'cake' of it

morb im telling him that because he thinks he wasted it and he said the milky water i was letting him that he can draw syringes up of the milky water to be able to inoclate more jars with out waiting for the spores to germ. the cake it self is probly lost as a cake but there are several things he can do with the soaked cake. he may not be happy about losing the cake it self but it aint a total waste!

After thinking about what happened last night I came up with a conclusion. It is not safe to dump popcorn at birth because of the shape of the kernels; the mycelium network stretches from kernel to kernel and upon watering (DUNKING) it falls back, releasing its grip.
Popcorn hasn't got the same consistency as PF cake, forming a solid bond. Personally I believe its not as sturdy. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Since some mycellia only grow in a thin white layer covering it it won?y hold together at all. But case those same kernals in straw , coco coir/ verm, or what ever and they WILL grow into the substrate.
I?ve noticed that species like Cambodian on the other hand grow into VERY dense white cottony solid mass.
Don?t dunk!! The water your mushies will need will come from the casing material you use.More nutients come from the actual kernal itself.

I've studied everything about popcorn and no one mentioned it, till I fucked up, Its just my luck.
