"Hey. Could we do that again? I know we haven't met, but I don't want to be an ant. You know? I mean, it's like we go through life with our antennas bouncing off one another, continously on ant autopilot, with nothing really human required of us. Stop. Go. Walk here. Drive there. All action basically for survival. All communication simply to keep this ant colony buzzing along in an efficient, polite manner. "Here's your change." "Paper or plastic?' "Credit or debit?" "You want ketchup with that?" I don't want a straw. I want real human moments. I want to see you. I want you to see me. I don't want to give that up. I don't want to be ant, you know?"

It's like the other day at Kmart. No humans there just a few ants and I think a roach. So after they filch $1 for "The March of Dimes" (surely Sears gets a cut) cause if you say no you are not only an ant but a greedy one. Then they ask for your "rewards card" so they can make a record of your visit to this ant colony. Then another question do you want a rewards card if you don't already have one. Then paper or plastic actually it's all plastic there. Well no shit it's no wonder the line at Kmart moves like molasses in the winter.
So I am buying my one item. I pre-answer "NO" to all the questions. She asks me them anyway. Just doing her stupid check the ants out job.
Well the point was after all that we really did have "a moment" of mutual ant appreciation at least I thought my antennae may have brushed hers.

Some ants pick up the spores of the cordyceps fungi in the jungle and begin to act psychotic. They cease their normal function and act deranged, stumbling around the colony. The symptoms are recognized and a worker grabs the errant ant in its pincers and carries it far, far away from the colony, where the infected is dropped off and left to die. Once alone, our fungified ant begins to climb. Its only purpose is to move up into the canopy and find a leaf with an open vantage of the jungle vista. It then sinks its own pincers into the leaf it has chosen as the final resting ground, and dies. The myclelium then spreads through the corpse and a single mushroom fruits from its head. The spores are released into the prevailing wind and then float down to the forest floor to be picked up by another automated worker.

This is the most individual experience the ant ever had, just before its death, which scattered it to the ind. Was it destined to contact that spore?

So I'm having a really great day, coffee tastes good, food tastes good, Air is refreshing and I'm enjoying getting 100 things done, then I get some really amazing news, so amazing and awesome that my whole body tingles with pleasure for the rest of the day. But I still don't know how to connect (or what to say) to that hot blonde who blatantly tried to walk right into me to get my attention. I still don't know how to connect with or respond appropriately to many situations that require doing or saying stuff to other humans.

What the heck is growing out of that poor ants back. That looks like some alien thing. Well that's what the ant got for eating shrooms. Deranged and outcast and left to die alone. I wonder if some ants can just behave normally enough to get along with the colony. Or make buds with the workers, flip them a spore or two...

Thats one way to look at it. Sometimes they do share spores though, and eventually one gets to the queen and then you get ant colony extinction. Its actually a wonderful way to kill termites and carpenter ants. Just put spawn in one of their paths, and then, kaput.

Oh my religion would never allow me to kill a termite or a carpenter ant. In fact, I put 2x4s into the dirt and connect them to the main structure to allow them easy access.

Ants also "farm" fungus. They store leaves underground, which eventually grow fungus on them that the ants use for a source of food. They even beat us to modern agriculture. I wonder if they're also literate and have itty bitty hieroglyphs down there.

Maybe.
If I chocolate coated them and ate them.
Like that snake.
I could relate.
I could kill a yellow jacket at any time.
Other than when near their nest.
OK if I have the big can of foam my bravery level increases.
Just act like you really weren't the one spraying...
Then even the jakkets getit.
