air filter box
    #1605738 - 06/03/03 07:44 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

i have built a small box that i'm giong to use as an airfilter for the air pumps i have inside it. the intakes have tyvex(spelling?) over them to filter incoming air. My question is this: what could i use to seal the box. it's a small rubermaid. i was thinking possibly caulk or something. any suggestions? sound like it'd work? let me know... thanks

oh yah, is there any other methods to make a box like this?

Tape, caulk, silicone sealent, liquid nails, stuff like that. Sticky stuff sold in tubes at the hardware store. Silicone would be best as it isn't so permanent. Dont use glue or you'll have a hard time getting in at a later date.

Mine is a smaller plastic container as well. I didn't use any sealing agents like silicone.

I used foam weather stripping. To seal the lid, I drilled holes every three inches and inserted matching nuts and bolts.

I chose this over sealing agents for easy maintenance.

If you use sealing agents, it's stuck.

with all due respect, if you looked up 'caulk gun' and 'silicone'
at homedepot.com you'd understand what he's implying.

well to beat a dead horse ...... while you are at Home Depo...... forget the caulk gun ...... just get Clear Silicone in a squeeze tube ( looks like a toothpaste tube) Hint********* real silicone will say "not paintable" if it is paintable, it is acrylic and not as good as pure silicone.......... this comes in that squeeze tube style

Dap

Good Luck

tyvek you can try it as a filter but wont draw enough air in to supply the pump adequately, tyvek simply does not allow that much air infitration at once its a very slow for air exchange polyfill is usually the filter on a air box
