installing new pressire relief valve on All American Sterilizer
    #16044583 -

Good Evening Shroomerites,

I have recenlty come across and old AC Lab Equipment (made by AA) sterilizer.

I have ordered all replacement parts i will need.

I have a question regarding installation of the Excess Pressure Relief Valve (part num 2050cs)....

my 2050cs came from an AA authorized distributor, as did the pressure gauge and toggle valve. those were simple and easy to install.

When the excess pressure relief valve got to me the small screw that retains the cap (which has 26 psi stmaped on it) on top of the 2050cs was barely threaded on. Enough to retain the cap, but it was definately loose. it looked to me like the screw had backed out a bit transit/handling.

it seems logical to me that this cap retaining screw be threaded down hand tight, but not torqued hard at all. I have never refurbished a 50 year old sterilizer so i want to ask:

When installing the 2050cs excess pressure relief valve should cap retention screw be screwed in to hand tightness?

thanks,
bakerx

It's just a dust cap.  The tiny screw on both of mine rattled loose and the caps were lost years ago.  The cap doesn't even need to be there.  Don't overtighten the screw if you put it back on.

thanks RR. you the man!

i knew from looking at it that the screw was just for retaining the cap...i figured the cap was just there for even steam dispersal should the valve release.

i've got eddie valliant (my sterilizers name)  all assembled with the  new parts and ready to rock! picking up another LP tank at the hardware store this am and then making 20 qt jars of supplimented sawdust (sawdust/wheat bran/ gypsum) this afternoon  :dancer:

my buddy who works as a pressure vessel technician loved your idea for the siphon loop in between the pressure gauge and vessel top so he has ordered me a couple different assemblies thorugh his work and we will be putting one on in the next week or so.

I have a few syringes en route from various sources so i plan on running 10 of these jars with SW/EM Blue oyster and the other 10 with something else.

holy shit its awesome to be able to run 20 quart jars at a time!
