mending a pressure cooker?

My pressure cooker boiled dry the other day and after it made some very strange noises and literally jumped across my table like it was full of gremlins i found that the little piece of metal plug shaped like this ( ) || ( ) Had shot out its rubber hole. It is an extra seal with closes prior to the weight letting steam escape.. If I seal its hole completly would steam still escape from the other weighted valve at 15 psi

It would, BUT, what you described is an additional overpressure vent, I would strongly suggest that you get the original part again, for your own security, you wouldn?t want the PC blowing your head off, would you?

my pressure cooker almost exploded on me, i came into the kitchen to find the bottom of it was bowing outwards, the metal was beggining to heat and flex, not a good sign.
it had boiled dry, it was a Mirro 4 quart pressure cooker (max pressure 10 psi)
i threw it away, even though no safety valve had gone off, when it begins to bend like that you dont want to risk anything,
as a responsible mushroom cultivator you have to wonder what kind of damage was done to the structural integrity of the PC in itself.
you dont want one of these to explode on you, we are talking shrapnel.
mine was a cheap model from wal mart and it wasn't a huge loss to throw it away, if you own one that you put a pretty penny into i would contact the company about a replacement part/advice or try to get them to replace the whole thing. if it was a cheapo like mine.....
toss it.

Just for the record, I've welded aluminium (don't try this with a regular TIG or MIG welder!!) over a rusted out spot in my pressure cooker, and it work(ed) fine. when I got a new one, I used the old one for target practise. I shot a .300 winchester mag through it when it was at the "C" in caution :-)
