coincidence is the choreography

synchronicity occurs with the human perception of that choreography

synchronicity is different than coincidence, since coincidence occurs without any subtextutal data (which occurs with synchronicity)

so what does it matter if the things align and mean something to someone, completely subjectively - but may not carry any objective basis ?

on the morning of Nov 18th, 2001, I saw THOUSANDS of shooting stars from a dark mountaintop, 8000ft above sea level. it was an incredible display of nature, but I didn't see a reason to attach any special meaning to it.

I guess because nobody I knew died that night.. or something

yeah it was awesome...  the 2002 leonids didn't come close to that :frown:
the next big show will happen in 33 years or so. don't miss it or you'll have to wait another 33 years

and btw, on an average night, you can see several meteors per hour if you happen to be paying attention so it's not all that rare.

The summer before 9th grade I met my best friend Devin. About a year later his mom came to pick him up and it turns out our moms already knew eachother. Then Devin says he remembers seing me one time when his mom brought him to work, which then sparked my memory of the same day.

Also when we were on a bus one time we saw this kid walk on and I'm like "I kicked that kids ass in 6th grade, when he had a mullet," and Devin is like "woh I kicked his ass when I was in 7th grade."

Those arent the only 2 by far but those are the ones that stick out. I've also gotten mass deja-vu.

I was going to a family barbeque with my gramma   and before we got into her car I had this strange feeling, like we were going to get in a crash or something. I said to her, kind of jokingly, "Hey gramma, we're gonna get in a crash"
Sure enough, on the way back...Boom, rear-ended....

Seeing a shooting star is much rarer than getting hit with a drop of water

Go outside more often after dark away from light pollution. You can see one almost every night.

interesting thread
When I was in 5th grade I was on the play ground running around with a jolly rancher in my mouth. I had pissed the big school bully off earlier in the day by hitting him in the face with a dodge ball (unintentionally). So Im running around at reccess when I start to choke on this piece of candy. I stop for a second not knowing what to do and thinking I should run to the teacher on the other side of the playground, when all of a sudden a fist hits me in the stomach causing me to expel the candy onto the culprit. Which turned out to be the bully. The bully had got his payback but he may in fact have saved my life. Kinda stange. I consider Steve one of my best friends now and he still claims he didnt know I was choking at the time and just wanted to beat my ass. He hasnt grown much since the 5th grade and Im 6'4" now he considers me the bully.

Yeah, the leonids were awsome.
Here's a coincidence fer ya...
It was cloud covered in Massachusetts (where I was at the time)
and so we were told we wouldn't be able to see a thing. Hence
I planned to be snuggled up in bed snoring away. However, that
night I had a dream that I saw a huge leonid meteor and that it had
come especially for me... at that instant I woke up... it was 4 a.m.
I walk out in my jammies and stand there blurry eyed and freezing
for a few seconds... next I see a huge falling star blazing through
the cloud cover. Excited, I get dressed, all bundled up, hop in my
Miata, drive to an open space on a hilltop, put the top down and
proceed to wait for another hour without seeing a single other lenoid...
My friends say that the dream was a sign, the lenoid, had traveled
throught the cosmos only to blaze through a cloudy Massachusetts
sky so that I might get a glimpse of it... romantic... yes...coincidence... YES !
I've had some pretty wild coincidences, most of them dreaming predictions,
one of them particularly stands out since I have proof of it and it's probability
can be easily calculated. However, I completely agree with Swami...
The deal is that in a population of Billions and "on a long enough time line"
according to plain ol statistics and the bell distribution curve, something seemingly
amazing WILL happen to someone !
someone WILL win the Lotto in the near future !!! garunteed !!!! to him/her it will
be the most amazing "coincidence" ever...

I go outside almost every night but I live in a city so I have light pollution like most people here. Which makes it harder to see the stars, so 'seeing a shooting star' is still rarer.

exactly, it's just pure chance. amazing stuff happens all the time.
but I don't mind if people attach personal meaning to coincidences  :smirk:
as long as they keep it personal.

Meteors cross the sky all the time; usually, there's one at least every few minutes. Sit out in a dark place some time and see for yourself. During a meteor shower there can be as many as four or five a minute.

My point is that they're not rare events, they're just rarely noticed.

I notice them all the time. I always have.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

Today while working i unexpectedly started whistling a guitar riff that i hadn't heard in a very long time

a classic one

i couldn't remember at all what it was from...

then i get home and listen to what i'd been downloading while i was gone..... - les claypool's fearless flying frog brigade - shine on you crazy diamond (live @ bonnaroo)

about 10 minutes into it the very same riff that came to me earlier that day starts playing...

I know, thats what I'm saying, I agree with you. But since its all we know is from human prespective its all the same shit anyways. Just like the tree falling in a forest w/o people, does it make a sound? Who gives a fuck, I'm sure trees fall all the time but how often do you hear one fall? It wont matter enless you hear it. Hearing a tree fall w/o people chopping it down is rare for people no matter how many tree fall a min in the wild...thus we still consider it rare.

Which makes it harder to see the stars, so 'seeing a shooting star' is still rarer.

I was thinking of two songs I haven't heard in along time, We build Castles in the Sky and Do you think you're better off alone, and they both came on right after the other I hadn't heard either one in nearly a year...
