rust colored -- contam or metabolite?

My BRF jars (pf) are 95% colonized after 3 weeks and in a couple of jars there are very small rust-colored specks.
-the specks are very small -- maybe poppy seed sized on average. -in the jars that they are present, there's only a couple of specks (1-4) -in all cases, the specks are either very near or on the bottom of the jars (none near inoculation points) -there are no other signs of contamination and the jars have continued colonizing since the appearance of these spots -at the moment, no signs of in vitro pinning
I know as a general rule, reddish colors are bad. But the fact that since I first saw them about 4 days ago they haven't seemed to grow, spread or change much at all... wishful thinking, I considered they might be metabolites. But you're the experts, and since this is my first grow, I have no idea what this could be. Is it possible it might actually be rust?
Here's a picture. This is the most "severe" case. The other jars where I noticed these specks are actually smaller than these and there's only 2 or so. (the lighting makes it appear that there's other discoloration in the mycelium, but I assure you other than these spots, it's very healthy looking mycelium across the board) Advice?

Had something that looked just like that once.
Turned out that when the holes were drilled in the lids, a couple of extremely tiny metal flakes had been left behind in the bottom of the jar during the drilling process...and they rusted.
Not saying that's what you've got there, but it sure looks A LOT like it.

It is the Vermiculite. Some have a metalic mineral content that will stain the mycelium like that. I always see them in BRF jars. No worries. Looking good.

Thank God... I was really getting worried.
Although, the metal shavings theory seems very plausible in this case. They are only at the bottom and I did drill the lids while they were on the jars. In any case... does rust seem to have an effect on fruiting performance?

This is exactly how the jars I mentioned had their holes drilled in them...lids and rings still on.

No, not at all.
