Humidity/water droplet Problems
    #16031838 - 04/02/12 12:51 AM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Greetings. I'm quite new to growing mushrooms and this site has been an invaluable source of information.

I currently have a setup for my shiitake mushrooms using a design I got from this site. The basic setup is as follows and it’s working well except for one thing:

I have a large plastic tub with ventilation holes, a sonic humidifier and some two liters to reduce the water droplets in the mist. This is working fine, but I can’t seem to get the relative humidity inside the chamber above 91%. Turning the humidity control up higher on the humidifier causes water droplets to get through the 2-liters and into the growing chamber. I had to reduce it previously because water droplets kept condensing on the cakes.

Is there any way to increase the humidity without causing water droplets to form on the cakes? Is 91% RH high enough for fruiting?

Any advice?

You must have found an old post.  All that crap isn't necessary or beneficial.  Simply build a shotgun terrarium and your humidity will be 95% or better, plus you'll get the fresh air supply you need for best pinning performance.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I do still have some questions?

I'd rather not scrap the entire design I currently have, but rather add to it so that I can control the humidity better.

Can a shotgun terrarium work in conjunction with the sonic humidifier system? Will the dynamics of the shotgun terrarium still work with extra humidity being added by the humidifier?
