I contacted IGG - who said that the campaign has to run throughout the date I had specified initially. I verified my Paypal today, and I suppose that that only allows for future payments to be made, and immediately transferred to my PayPal account. That does not help! We'll have to wait until the campaign is over on the date I had specified initially:

Quote:

Funding ends: December 27, 2014 2:59am PST

This means the funds raised won't be delivered to me until far longer than my patience allows for.

As such, I will place the order from ATCC when I get paid on Dec. 1st from my personal account and cover the necessary costs of getting the culture and bubble mailers to Lipa.

Expect an update by Dec. 3rd from me, as that's usually when my check actually arrives in the mail.

Thanks for the patience, and we'll talk on Dec. 3rd or so, if not sooner.

Reggie :mushroom2:

P.S. the guy who said he'd donate all those cultures has responded! He will be sending the cultures out when he can.

I will be emailing everyone to inquire which cultures they would like.

It will definitely pass $1000.  I hope this strain actually eats plastic.  If not, the search will be on for a strain that does.

I guess any extra money should be spent doing this.  It's a common fungus and I am not sure how many species are going under this name.

Has anyone actually tried emailing the Yale professor who helped write the paper about the P. microspora strains that ate plastic in an anaerobic state? If his lab still has the cultures he may be willing to share.

Yes, I have spoken with the people from that lab.  They are not willing to share - the problem is the laws.  They aren't allowed to give out the culture.

Mexico is cool, but once you get further south, you aren't allowed to bring anything back.  There are strict regulations about this.

I talked to them again - just a couple of minutes ago they said:

"We have attempted to get permission from the Ecuadorian government multiple times and filled out a lot of paperwork; no luck so far."

This.

I discussed with the misses what to do with the remaining funds, short from donate it all to a mycology organization we decided it best to further study of fungi that consume plastic because as we all know - removing plastic from the environment is a heroic problem to undertake.

Every bit helps! Open to future suggestions/ideas.

One step at a time, though.

Thanks,

Reggie :mushroom2:

dunno if this has been mentioned yet but;

Gliocladium roseum is supposed to make diesel like metabolites.

We can consider it however I'd like this projects to remain focused on plastic. What (if any) are the implications of a diesel producing fungus in relation to plastics?

I simply was providing the article, for those curious!

Peace and good vibes! :mushroom2:

Reggie

I think we should get multiple cultures then.
Pestalosphaeria hansenii is supposed to be the telemorph of P. microspora. Getting a culture that is known to fruit (getting past the asexual stage) would allow us to at least try breeding new cultures.

ATCC has that as well!

Anybody have a constant contact account they want to let me borrow? :P

It's been painful - I've got lists of people who have emailed at various levels, but GMAIL blocked my account from sending, HushMail wouldn't allow me to BCC, and several other providers haven't let me send to 41 people because spam.

I just want to email people in groups - at each donation marker, without having to do it one by one.

Open to suggestions - I'm quite savvy with tech and can figure anything out.

Thanks,

Reggie :mushroom2:

Alan - I tried this morning, see the latest IGG updates. Mailchimp blocked me too, I was excited to see that they were free for up to 2k subscribers.
