No large haul today but given all of these were found in new spots closer to home is good news to me!! All found right off the Hocking River in southern Fairfield county and/or northren Hocking county in Ohio

Really just didnt feel like making the roughly 3hr drive all the way down to the Ohio river so im glad these spots r closer 2 home... the day was not a total waste!!

Yes thats how I posted all of fall finds. Its not really important to me, I have nothing to prove just wanted to be the one to tell folks in my area . That voice in your head, telling you to check your spots, yea listen to it, cuz its right this time!

That voice was telling me the last month winter that they'd be out early this year.  The first day I checked I hit the jackpot.  I'd searched some other areas the day before, which i found this winter and thought they would be good ovoid habitats, because my spot is kinda far away and didn't find any.

That's as close as i got. I did pick them so i can take closer pics. Those two were located about ten yards off a creek. Lots of dead logs and the ground was kinda wet still. Ill have to go early and spend a few hours out.

The temps here are just right, but it just refuses to rain.

That's all it took, a few massive heavy down pours last weekend. I did scope out the area 2 weeks ago and it was bare. It's not the shortest drive for me so I try to time it right. I went approx 4 days after the storm and there are full out patches of ripe ones and pins ready to take their place . I am trying to relocate the patch, any tips?

Why not water a patch if you know it is good?

i wish i had a hand-pumped hose to hook up to the river. i guess a bucket would do the trick, too.

Good idea guys. A light bucket and a little spray bottle to nurture (and not drown) any little pins.

Here are a couple California ovoids with spore prints on the caps.

You know, we talked about that last year and I don't know why the concept didn't register with me this year. The spot is perfect for that... Five minutes from home and five seconds from the creek.
