going to try mushrooms, some safety questions - please reply
    #1602968 - 06/02/03 11:23 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Hey there,

I'm planning on consuming some psilocybes in about a month . I was wondering about the medication I'm taking for depression. Now, it is for depression, but I am generally a happy person, and I am loving life right now, I've read about the dangers of tripping if you're depressed, and I trust my judgement on the matter.

I'm on 100mg of Zoloft (sertraline hydrochloride) per day, taking in the morning.

My question is -- not if the fact that I have been diagnosed with depression is a danger, because I've already discussed that -- but rather if the chemicals and/or actions of this fairly commonly prescribed anti-depressant would negatively affect the magic mushroom experience, or more importantly, my health.

Please let me know what you {guys} think. I am really looking forward to delving into my consciousness and experiencing the power of these magic little shrooms.

Thank you bunches.

I beleive Zoloft is an SSRI, and if I am correct, you'd need to stop taking them for a little bit in order to go shrooming; SSRI's diminish the effects of pychedelic drugs. If you did it anyway without stopping the meds, then I'm not sure what would happen, you might feel a little something, or nothing at all.

However, I don't know how realistic that would be for you to stop taking your medication. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Whats the dose?

Quote:

*Sertraline* (Zoloft) -- the effect with this antidepressant seems to be dose-dependent. At 50 mg/day, there was no effect on the response to LSD nor to psilocybin. However, at 100 mg/day, there was a decrease in response to both LSD and MDMA.

You said at 100 mg/day there was a decrease in response to LSD and Ecstasy. So, does that not include psilocybin? Or do we not know? Thank you guys, I feel better now, not acchieving desired effects is very much the lesser evil compared to health problems because of mixing. thx.

Zoloft and Prozac apparently do not have an effect on the affect of psilocybin at dose between 0-100mg. The majority of selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors only seem to diminish the effects of LSD. However some people on here have reported, that Paxil does indeed diminish the effects of shrooms.
