Hi blessed,

To me it looks just like an etiolated sub that grew through something like thick grass to get to the surface. Subs are a species that shows a huge range of variations. The trick is to spot the discontinuities. If you have a range of shapes that blend from 'A' to 'B', even if the two extremes look like chalk and cheese, then they are unlikely to be separate species, as evidenced by the intermediate forms. However, if you have populations 'X' and 'Y' that are subtly different with no intermediate forms (and provided that they were not growing in radically different environments), they might be different species.

Even within one species one can find stable genetic variants in populations. For example here in Tassie blue gums are a 40m+ forest tree, except in Cape Tourville, Freycinet, where they complete their life cycle as a 2m high dwarf, which is genetically stable (if you grow it next to a forest giant it will remain a dwarf).

The problem is made worse by the facts that species boundaries in fungi can be blurry at best (especially in Psilocybe!), and Psilocybe has received unusual attention from splitters (in taxonomy, people who go overboard dividing existing species into lots of more narrowly defined species - often minor morphological variants).

But that's just my opinion. I do not doubt that there are both Psilocybe in Tasmania that are totally new to science, as well as undiscovered, previously-described species. The main problem is the stigma associated with them. If you see these growing around the place in future, I would encourage you to make a proper Herbarium collection (with copious notes of location, habit, habitat, and anything else that comes to mind) and submit them to the Tasmanian Herbarium in Hobart. It is the easiest way they're likely to be studied properly.

Hello again Tas75

I remember reading that there was a few different Psilocybes (Tasmanian being one of them) that was ultimately put under the main species Psilocybe subaeruginosa.

The fact that they can very so much, is amazing, and i guess understandably why sometimes mushrooms species are sometimes seen as a different species,
when only it's the same species that has grown in a different environment.

If mankind stopped chasing money as the main reason for living, im sure alot of these mysteries could be better understood.
It doesn't help of course that the mushroom in question is considered illegal :frown:

Btw, sorry everyone. I've got a bit overexcited due to all the interest in those finds. And after last night post i thought that im getting too carried away with it all. sorry everyone

I must admit that my only real reason im into mushrooms is because of shrooms.

but my interest in mushrooms in general has definitely gone up, but i can't forget why im out there looking, actives.

When i found these ones, all my brain was thinking about, will this make me trip. hence my not handling the find like a real mushroom lover or a person that's studies them all the time.

If i ever find them again, i will take many pictures and notes.

As this season is slowly coming to an end, i soon will stop looking for shrooms, but as many season that are to come, i will passionately look for magic mushrooms and,
if ever find myself looking at another one of these finds (or something else) i will take the time and take the relevant info.

Thanks for your replies Tas75.

Thanks for all the interest everyone :mushroom2:

mushrooms are an exciting thing for us all. wanting to categorize and discover everything we can about mushrooms is what has made the community/culture it is what it is today:super:

No, man, don't be sorry. I am not pretending I know them to be subs, or trying to make you feel that your opinions or ideas are inferior to mine! I'm not an authority on mushrooms by a long shot! As far as I'm concerned my opinion is my opinion, I share if I think it might be useful, but I don't pretend it to be the word of god.

As to being interested in mushrooms only because of shrooms, well, it's a start, and you wouldn't be the first one to develop some interest in mushrooms in general that came out of picking shrooms...

Thanks daz01, Tas75 & greencavefloat

Everyone is different, but for me, i need a purpose. I do have others, but since being introduced to magic mushrooms, i have definitely become a more happier person.

Im now noticing all types of mushrooms like never before, so yes, my interest has begun to grow ( just like mushrooms, but i don't need to be rained on  )

And now I even enjoy the hunt, where before, it was all about the trips.

Im even wanting to buy a better camera and a sound recorder ( for note taking ) and maybe a gps device ( for me to be able to pin point where i am, so as to return if needed ).

As for your opinion Tas75, like most people, one can tell alot about a person, in how they talk, act, body language, and of course write. im happy to listen to your opinion.
And, i do believe that most people on here are wiser then me when it comes to mushroom, but be careful... im slowly learning, so im catching up  :haha:

Im going back to the location next weekend, really looking forward to it. Gonna spend some time trying to find the location of the finds again.
If i remember correctly? i saw pins the last time

See ya all

Hope the rest of the week is good

Oh and btw, still gonna see if i can get someone to look at the prints and dried cap. So stay tuned

Hello Again

Wasn't gonna hunt this weekend, but decided to this morning.

Found (so far ) today.

Not a lot, but still better than nothing

It really looks like things are slowing down, but maybe that's just from this patch (hope so, still nowhere near the 200g desired).

Gonna go hunting in new spots shortly.

Hope you all have a great weekend, and good luck with any hunts.

Hey guys!

Went for a look today - probably over an hour and found 4 in total haha. Has slowed down a fair bit but still going. Just gonna take a lot longer than the past few months to get a decent amount I reckon.

Thought I'd post them up just for fun though!

Enjoy the thrill of the hunt!

Hello Everyone

Nice finds Nevermind
The last pic, those 6 subs look yummy :homerdrool:
What's the deal with the pictures to the left?(pic 6 7 & 8), those shrooms look "crazy"
as you said, not much, but still any finds is a good thing.

Nice finds too shroomseeker

just a rough guess would say you'll end up with 3-4 grams dried when those 4 are dried, nice amount for a great trip

Well, everyone,

One year ago i joined this site, and I'd thought i properly introduce myself today.
As mentioned on a recent id post, the meaning of my name, is that i am a man that "has" been blessed, not someone who thinks so highly of themselves that
they would call themselves blessed(sounds bless-said).

The reason for my avatar pic is that, i, in all honesty (although i "am" a loser), i feel like im a lion(wolf), that has been chained up through various things that life
has thrown at me. Main ones being depression, and a heavy sense that im a worthless piece of crap.

I am in essence, a (smart) dumb person. cursed and blessed at the same time.

I really hated myself.

Now, i just hate myself.

I would wish i was dead, very often,

now, only sometimes

This guy was alive

and now he's dead (racing accident).

I liked Marco Simoncelli's heart and passion for giving his "all"

this was on the back of his helmet

So here i am one year on, all i can say is im so grateful to God that i now know about magic mushrooms. In all honesty, it was just the thing i needed.

I can maybe see a day where i won't need shrooms in my life, but for now, im loving them

I only wish the peak was a bit longer, i find that the most awesome part of the trip only last about 1 hour, if that?, i wish it was for at least 2 hours or even more.
Was told that LSD would provide that, but a good friend told me, to stay away from it.

Anyway guys, im here for the long haul, and if im ever annoying, im sorry, it's never intended, and if i ever look like like a dumb fool, it's because i am,
but I'm learning to accept this fact.

And im gonna stop talking about my depression (im sure it's getting annoying).

Here's to many more years on this site  (God allowing, of course)

And i do have one wish, i wish, more people would make posts, I've not seen anything from scrogman and whale oil lamp for a while,
don't believe me if you don't want to, but i am truly interested in how my fellow Tasmanians are going.

Have a great week my friends

cya for now.

Hi Noob here!!!

Hope everyone has had a good season, cool looking at all the pics, I only gotta shiddy camera and can't upload pics yet but saw a couple of nice specimens today on my regular dog walks but nowhere near as many as the week before last. gotta end sometime I suppose.

Did find quite a few Oyster mushrooms though which where promptly taken home for dinner :smile:and a couple of stray lactarius, which I thought was odd as they finished ages ago, they have got to be my fave mushroom besides the actives so yummy in a stew!!! >

Anyway I got to thinking and that's why I decided to join.

I'm sure everyone has heard of the Tasmanian Cubensis strain, I was wondering if anyone has actually seen this strain cultivated outdoors in tassie? I read it can colonize and fruit at slightly lower temps than other cubes but I imagine it would need an extreme microclimate to survive. It would be so cool if it were possible.

I like to use my microscope you see and I would really like to compare a cubensis print, actually I dream of fresh cubes, spore prints.

MIght go check out the myc porn now :crazy2:.

Take it easy fella's!

Hello everyone

Went to my main patch today and found nothing, ah well got a good amount from it anyway.

Interestingly, the patch that i first found actives this season ( one that friend had told me about ) is still fruiting . Not much but it's still going

Btw, i know that this site means different things to different people, but i checkout this thread everyday, it would be cool if there was always a new post to read, but hey, that's just me

Gonna hunt more this weekend, and due to all the recent "sunshine" we've had im thinking I'll do well

Right now, I've got around 150g dried :crazy2:

Hi Guys I was reading the Tassie online news paper's and I saw this article.

Thought it might interest those that havn't seen it!

http://www.theadvocate.com.au/news/local/news/general/magic-mushies-put-4-teens-in-hospital/2624070.aspx

Dr Ruigock added the presence of the mushrooms in the park was "apparently pretty common knowledge" .

"We need to get some education around this and someone to deal with it," she said

They have put a youtube vid up on the news website to show people what Pan, Cyans look like maybe they should add subs to that too.

I don't know if they picked the wrong ones or they just had a bad trip because of the nagging girlfriend.

Remember people wanting to find actives for the first time.

  get them properly id'd first

this website is a great place to start!

It sounds like they picked actives and couldn't keep their shit together. It says they picked them at 2PM and were in the hospital at 4PM - If it were a poisonous species I doubt they would notice effects that quickly. But really if they don't even know what species they are consuming then they shouldn't be eating them at all.

Also, the video in the article seems to be from someone in the mainland as he has videos of wild cubes also, and cubes do not grow in Tassie. I'm fairly sure Pan. cyans don't grow in Tassie either - Cinctulus do but not cyans.

The council will now probably spray a fungicide around the park so the mushrooms won't grow back for the remainder of the season. They do the same thing in some well known hunting spots around the Mt. Wellington area.

Hi Blessed, how do you cope when the carnival is out of town(bad trip)?

I've noticed sometime the mushroom seems to insist that one works on their internal dialogue and self image and it can be a tough journey some times.

It's just when one gets into the fetal position and gives up hope the mushroom seems to want to slap another at ya and bring it on deeper but most certainly rewards for changing ones self talk and attitude in the short and long term.

5-6 g hey!!!  be sure to post back your experience!

Anything over 4.5g and I get full blown paralysis and enter the next dimension.

I have to use the Mckenna Technique (dark room etc)cannot move one muscle, until I have nearly completely come down and then that's an effort. I usually crawl into bed after and fall asleep with a few bongs and a big glass of chocolate milk.

Have a good journey Blessed and observe your inner landscape with a free and peaceful mind.

Hi Nevermind,

It does say in the article that they had picked them before, likely a bad trip induced by not being in a controlled environment ie nagging girlfriend who had already dobbed them in once before.

But

Research Research Research before consuming any wild mushroom!

As the effects of poisoning can take days or weeks to realize.

Just thought if there were pickers up that way they may want to stay clear of there.

Hello psiloskybin

Crazy Kids!!!

I guess they'll learn from the experience. Problem is when stories like this hit the news, is that the city council & the law, may step up their efforts to stop us evil people from hunting :frown:

Also I've read that people make mushroom tea, not coffee. which got me thinking, there have been times when i was gonna trip, but due to feeling a bit too tired i had a
few coffees before the trip (anything from a few hours before or even an hour before). Question is, does anyone think that coffee can intensify a trip?
i sometimes think it makes a difference, but with so many variables, it's hard to tell. I intend one day to trip same amount with coffee (30 mins before) and next time without.

Hello Nevermind

that's why i wish theses stories didn't make the news. the flow on effect. I know im thinking selfishly, but there's not enough shrooms for all hunters imo,
so the last thing we need is the council seeking them out.

I've now experienced quite a few bad trips. What i mainly do is get in bed, cover myself completely with the sheets and ride it out. i cover myself up, cause i usually have a
very cold feeling running through my body. I also listen to positive music that helps with my thoughts.

As for my negative thoughts, I've been thinking a lot about it lately since my last few post, and im gonna give it my best to stop thinking that way, it's time to change.
I do think shrooms can teach and help, but I've also made the mistake of texting a good friend while tripping (based on a good shroom idea) and i ended up losing that friend (it wasn't the only reason we fell out, but it set things in motion).

If it's a good idea on shrooms, i wait until im not tripping, if it's still a good idea, i try to act on it, if not? i don't.

How do you cope?

As for the amount i trip on, i think after many years of not looking after my body like i should, i think i therefore need a bit more then others. I believe if i was a very healthy person getting all the necessary vitamins and foods types, i think I'd have better trips. Much like a engine, bad fuel, engine doesn't run great.

That aside, i just love the saucepan in your face feeling, mild is ok, but it's nowhere near as good as the hit a big trip gives.

Cause i absolutely love music (listening right now as i type) i love the effect shrooms have on audio. I've (on bigger trips) experience a effect where the music seems to melt
as i listen to it. by far the greatest thing my ears have ever heard.

Will make a post about this weekends trip, which will be 6 grams now. did 5 last week so want that bit more.

Have a good weekend everybody

gonna go hunting :mushroom2:

hey Blessed,

I've noticed that in many places the councils are reapplying woodchips at the first sign of shrooms.
