Fo sheezy.

There are, however, some things which are unspeakable.

What are you trying to say, Enter?

That pointless thoughts are pointless? Can't argue with that, can I? But your subject for this thread is that if you can't communicate your thoughts then thinking is pointless. And then there's something else going on... something about conclusions? What are you trying to communicate? Whatever it is, you are failing to put it into words, and therefore your thoughts are vain and your life carries no meaning. Is that what you're trying to say?

Why not stop thinking all together and become a being of action?

I hate vegetables

If it's been a couple years and the thought is still driving you crazy, than maybe it's time to really do something about it, or let it go.

if you can't say it or write it, your thinking is vain.

you will run into the limitations of language long before you run into the limitations of thought and experience. that is about as clear as I can say it, but still can't express the concept fully, but being a spiritual man, you probably already know what I'm talking about.

Pondering on something is good for a time, assuming one is able to make conclusions based on facts. Pondering on the same content over and over again without making conclusions (eventually), is vain and perhaps useless.

How long is "eventually," though?

What if something takes almost an entire life-time of pondering to come to a conclusion on it? If you give up, thinking the pondering is vain, you will never reach the conclusion.

I reached a conclusion that conclusions should be dealt with carefully. You shouldn't force one just because it isn't coming to you.

Isn't that what being open-minded is all about? accepting different perspectives?

I agree with you in a sense, Enter.. I have found many thoughts to serve no purpose but to get in my way... but I'll realize that when the time comes..
I wouldn't dare say I understand how my mind operates when it's changing every day, getting flooded with new thoughts every day... (i'm not saying you do, either)

it sounds like you've made some conclusions lately that are working out for you, and that's great.
but.
I'd say you are neglecting a very creative side of yourself if you limit your thinking to what you can logically describe.

plus I think some of the coolest art comes from total states of confusion, and not understanding things, especially about ourselves. i think that art holds a really powerful INDESCRIBABLE sense of freedom from our own rules we set for ourselves.

but maybe expressing your thoughts artistically is some sort of conclusion in itself?

"If you can't say it or write it, your thinking is vain."

some people believe the exact opposite. that if you can say it or write it, then those thoughts are meaningless. meaning that, nothing can be truly communicated anyways.

^^ Knows the deal. Nothing can be truly communicated. The inadequacy of language is so monstrous that it really bothers me. Every word carries with it a special connotation for each person. Each word conjurs up certain memories or stimulates various neural pathways that eventually affects the way one ultimately perceives something...and the thing is, it can be drastically different from person to person. This creates a lot of disturbances, which is evident in my life; miscommunication is most often the problem in an arising conflict.

Now think about the way you think...you think in language...in words and sentences...Man, I really want that girl. English thought.
Now go back to before you knew language; as a baby, living and perceiving everything without bias or previous experience to influence the thought process. Language is a disease- sure it helped to progress mankind, but it is ultimately flawed and ego-based: it requires foreknowledge to grasp. Telepathy, if you believe it possible, would be an excellent alternative- it's just like the saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words." And it is so true and more.

This was a post I've wanted to make for a very very long time now, but felt it would have been hard to get across what I want with the inadequate words and language at my disposal. This is not nearly the post/thread I intended to make, as it is lacking very much. Maybe one day I will make this into a thread, but its just too big to even think about right now.

Thought is never vain, pointless, or useless. Assuming what is thought is not spiritually harmful or poisonous, even that which is inexpressible carries a far reaching impact on our lives, the lives of those close to us, and the lives of everyone in the world, the universe. It is only reasonable to believe that what goes on in our minds will be closely reflected by our behavior. If our thoughts are particularly profound and incommunicable in nature, that same element of mystery will manifest itself in our daily living. On the other hand, if our thoughts are consistently narrow and simple, such will be the way we exist. Depending on what those complex or simplified thoughts consist of in detail, we will carry with us an air of either happiness or sadness, acceptance or anger, tolerance or divisiveness, harmony or turmoil. That personal atmosphere is transferred to our friends and family, all those we encounter, and all that they encounter.
