Khat is alive but not rooting

I have had a cutting of a khat plant for over a mounth. It is in moist soil. It is green and alive but still has no roots. How long should it take to root? Is this normal?

Khat cuttings need humidity to root properly If they have been in the pot for over a month I would start again. Take the cutting out of the soil and remake the cut, then dip in rooting hormone. Strike the cut into some fresh soil and water. Potting soil and perlite is a good mix. Place the pot into a polythene bag to keep the humidity up and leave it on a sunny window sill. The cutting should root in about three weeks. I open the bag up for a few minutes every day for air exchange, this seems to help.
Heat and humidity is the key to success.
Good luck. chrisesq

I have never rooted khat the way chrisesq describes.
However khat taking quite a long time to root, sometimes up to a month is normal in my experience. It remains healthy during that time. I normally just dip into rooting hormone, place in a 50/50 sand soil mix with a good dose of lime and water semi-regularly.
I find a general rule of thumb is to mimic as much as possible the natural environment in which the plant comes. What i do is a pretty good mimic.
However i think i'll try chrisesq's method and see how it works.

Thanx the way I have been trying is simular to your way but instead of a plastic bag it is in a jar with a petri dish as a cover. Maybe I will try adding sand to the mix this time around.

To elaborate you can root them under flouros as well as a sunny windowsill but they will respond fast under an HPS lamp. Always take cutting from an actively growing shoot. I have taken cuttings in the late Autumn when the plants growth has slowed down for the Winter and these have been a real hard job to root. Good luck

Hi, it was cut of a newer shoot early this spring. The stem was a nice fresh red color. It has also been under floresents. Well I guess only time will tell. Do you think I should pull it out and recut the end and start over or should I just let it be?

in my opinion let it be, i've rooted woody stems of khat before, it just takes time, i did as i said, dipped it in RH and planted it, then after a few waterings, started watering with water that had RH in it, after some time it took off..
Also: don't forget about the lime.
