question re: root-growth...from a newbie
    #1601610 - 06/02/03 03:55 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

i'm sure this is terribly naive, but i have some mushrooms that have somewhat fluffy white and brown growths at the root of the stems...i am wondering whether or not it is necessary to clean these entirely off before eating, or if it is just a benign root growth. any help is appreciated. thanks,
paul (pae003@drake.edu)

A little mycelia will not matter. Just brush off the casing material and chow down.

BTW, mushrooms don't have roots.  :smirk:

What kind are they?I hesitate to tell you to eat them, and urge you not to, if they have white ,orange, or rusty brown spores. You simply have not given enough data to make an ignorant guess.
