ID Inquiry.... Growing vs Harvested et al

This isnt an ID request per say but relates to the topic of identification..... and I am a rank newbie, so if anything about this query is offensive, my apologies in advance.
First I have downloaded and am reading a number of guidebooks and doing my best to expand my knowledge.
Second, I have quite a few clusters of mushrooms growing in my yard... I noticed them just this week near a small organic garden I have been working... my location is suburban / mountainside North Alabama...elevation about 1000 feet... suburban semi lawn / wooded area... but gets sun especially before leaf growth.
My questions relate more to the issue of should I just leave them to grow and get larger ? before trying to id them ? ie harvest, spore print etc....
For now I have been photographing from emergence through the various stages of growth.... Seems I recall that ID is more/less difficult at various stages of growth... and yet here, it seems everyone harvests what they find and then asks questions later...
In a perfect world (growing in your backyard) is it better to allow the mushrooms to grow and develop ? photograph along the way before harvesting and ultimately trying for a definitive identification ?
Thanks in advance, and again, my apologies if this query is inappropriate in any way.

If they are immature specimens, I would leave them a day or two before trying to get them ID'd.

Since photos do no harm, why don't you post them here to see if we can help you out? Some mushrooms are easy to identify even when very young.

"Photograph along the way before harvesting..." seems like a pretty good idea too. Collections for study are best when they have captured the fruit's (mushroom) entire life cycle above ground.
What Elprawn said is true too, those spores need to be mature when you collect them.
Good questions, you have done your research.

Here are a few of the more recent photos... I am sure they must be rather common.. to be popping up everywhere in the yard... as an eternally curious person I started reading to see what I might learn about mushrooms....

Those are some nice photos. Could you get a shot of the gills (underside of the cap) by any chance? Those are interesting.

This particular mushroom turned dark brown nearly overnight and seems to be drying out so I just pulled it... it might not be entirely representative.... as to scale thecap on this guy is not much larger than a quarter and about 2 inches tall.... most of the caps on the others are slightly larger..although about the same height and more peak-domed at the top of the cap.... So here are a couple of pics of the gills...

Oh yes, it seems obvious after you say it. Haha.
