anyone knows what this one is?...
    #1601270 - 06/02/03 01:52 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

This specimen is found at the west region of Middle East. It was grown on a fairly dry pasteur land and near a tree. These ones don't look so healthy. Actually when i found them they were being eaten by ants. I'd just like to learn what species this is and is it eddible?

They are all the same shrooms. Just the photos were taken in different times today.

And here is the print;

Thanx and the best of luck!..

angry beat me to it.

Those look like Coprinus micaceus, an incredibly common inky cap.

To confirm the ID, you should look closely at the caps (preferably with a magnifier) and you should see some tiny mica-like particles. If you see them, then that's what they are. If not, they can wash off, and there are some similar-lloking mushrooms.

Coprinus micaceus is edible, as long as you get to them while the gills are still white. Once they start to change color they become inedible (nasty). It is also advisable to avoid consumption of alcohol for at least 2 days before and 5 days after eating them.

Happy mushrooming!

I now went down and checked, the gills are purplish black both at mature and immature ones. Is this a clue?

your spore print color sounds wrong. those look rather certainly to be a Coprinus, wich have jet black prints. i think angry is right with the species.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
