Birthday Party - Today was the DAY! cross your fingers!
    #1601028 - 06/02/03 11:50 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

OK it's time to birth these bad boys.

I flipped my cakes 9 days ago and they have fully colonized.

I have a fruiting chamber ready with perlite and a couple bubble stones running on an air pump.

My questions:

Do I now put water into the fruiting chamber?
Should I dunk them first?
Should I case them? or some of them at least?

First birthday here, need help!

Any links to the automated fruiting chamber would be a appreciated

I bought a vicks. I still have perlite and bubble stones. Do I put water in the chamber with the perlite?

Optimum temp and humidity?

70-75
90-100%

Correct?

Dunk in Spring water for 12 hours, okey dokey

I know have the chamber set up. I will use the vicks for another time.
I have a temp of 72 with 99% Humidity.

My question is this:

With two air bubblers and perlite do I still fan daily?

Just wondering what to do if I am on vacation for a weekend?

A computer fan would solve this I imagine.

Thanks

JB

OK!

I have dunked for twenty hours and placed my cakes in my fruiting chamber.

I am at 71.3 Degrees with 97-99% Humidity.

I have a plexiglass top to let let in.

NOW heres the query:

I have my Fruiting chamber in the closet.
If I turn the light on3-4 hrs a day will that initiate pinning or should I use a timer to regulate the light pattern?

Also how long does the average cake take to show signs of fruiting and how long does it usually take to complete the first flush generally?

Just curious, no hurry at all.

JBggg

It may take up to a week, perhaps even longer. It might take only a day or so though. Hard to tell, unless you've been keeping really good notes and you'd like to share them with us. Even then it's kinda hit-or-miss..

Anyway, 3-4 hours of light per day should be plenty to initiate pinning. However, IMO it's better to have light on them longer during fruiting. The fruitbodies are phototropic (grow towards light) during growth, up until the veil breaks. Once the veil breaks, the become geotropic (they use gravity to align their caps with the earth). In other words, they use light to guide them in the right direction at first, but when they are ready to 'spread their seed,' they rely on a more fail-safe method to keep their caps perpendicular to the ground. For straiter, neater looking mushies, it's best to use more light. Otherwise you get some oddballs growing at all sorts of wierd angles. Hell, you get some of those regardless, but for the most part more light makes them grow straiter, and light cycles aren't too important.

You get the idea.

For your last question - from pin to fll grown mushroom takes roughly a week, give or take depending on the sizes of the mushrooms..
