The only thing I know about pure gold is that it cannot be created or destroyed.

it's fine to wear it in the shower, however it can gather oils and gunk inbetween the links, so it might change it's appearance but it won't hurt the gold.

Consider some silver too. It's much more "hip". Unless of course, you're a 50-year old italian guy living in Jersey.

I like it. I bought because I have a gold plated watch I like to wear and it correlates with the gold watch. Also my dad wears a lot of gold and he looks pretty pimp in it.

^^My point exactly.^^ I'd guess you're in your twenties, not fifties.
While I'm no jewelry expert, I'd guess that gold jewelry will always maintain some degree of popularity. Its just that currently, it seems that gold is only popular among old guys.
Just an opinion though. Perhaps gold is more popular in the social circles you frequent...

I am not sure. I just shop for myself really. I dont dress too much like my friends.
Actually most of my friends vary in the way they dress too. Some of the are grungy dirty cloths, some are into that new age very fit mens express kind of clothing, and some are into hippie kind of stuff. I like a lot of preppy clothing. Button downs, kakis, cargo shorts, boat shoes, sandals, designer stuff. I definitely love Ralph Lauren wear.
What do you wear?

I definitely agree that its all about personal preference. You can achieve different "looks" by how you present yourself and the other clothes you wear. Just take note the gold doesn't come off as "too-old".
In the mid-late 90's I was in my late teens-early twenties and wore lots of gold. Then I switched to silver as it gained popularity.
I stopped wearing a watch about 5 years ago because (for some reason), it bothers me when I type and work on a keyboard. Now I wear more "organic" things, like leather, string, or woven bracelets.
But based on your thread now I may bring back my gold and see if I can fit it into a "retro" old-man type of style. Kinda similar to the "prep style" someone posted about in a thread once.

Definitely take it off in the shower. 14 carat gold means that almost half of the metal isnt gold. Often things like silver or copper are part of the alloy these can discolor or even slightly corrode under the influence of amino and sulfur compounds such as present in some shampoos and conditioners.

Plus, it's just basic hygiene. You can't shampoo a gold chain like you can cord or hemp.

I even switched to a much lighter, titanium watch a few years back, and still, it was too bothersome to wear through a days work.

I can't stand metal on my skin.
When I was a child I refused to use silverware, only plastic ware.
And not to sound racist, but gold only looks good on black people. IMO. Silver is for teh whities.

Only thing that sounds racist in that is whities. I haven't seen a single white person that looked good with a bright yellow pants either, but with someone darkskinned it can look legit.

No-one, male or female... looks good in bright yellow pants.
No-one.
