Compact florescent lights & Pressure cooker
    #16004656 - 03/27/12 05:03 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

I'm about to give it a try at growing some mushrooms, I'm looking to do it right first time but on a small scale. I need to try and be somewhat incognito because I live in a shared flat and I don't think they'd approve of what I'm doing. I have the privacy of my bedroom so I'm looking at doing it in a box that can be stored under my bed.

One thing I'm struggling is lighting, because I want it to be done under my bed I need to find a somewhat compact light source. If anyone could link me to the right type of bulb and FITTING I would need for it that would be much appreciated. I'm in the UK and all I can find via google is the bulb itself and I'm a huge novice so I have no idea where to even start looking for a bracket/fixture or what it's even called.

One more quick question, If I'm using a light as the primary source does this mean I can grow it in a fully concealed box as oppose to a clear one.

Thanks in advance, I hope I've posted this in the right part of the forum.

EDIT: on a different note, trying to keep it as compact as I can would this be suitable?

Added a question with regards to a pressure cooker, I have other uses for it so the price isn't to much of an issue. Waiting for some answers before I make the dive and order some spores

under your bed is a terrible idea cuz the floor is full of contams. I keep my fruiting chamber atleast 50cm from the ground

id like to syaty by saying its not a good idea to do something like this in your situation, even if they were cool with it that's something they can hang over you.

light is beneficial to all stages of growth but not necessarily needed.
cubes will fruit fine with less than optimal light, if you could pull it out a few hours a day for some natural light that would work.

a bulb might get too hot to conceal.
led's work but your box will glow if you light it internally.

I wouldn't want my FC on the floor or under a dusty bed.
if that's the only option you have make shure you clean really well under the bed and I would place only the FC under the bed.
if your doing pf tek a sgfc wouldn't work correctly in a cramped space.
what ever you choose would need fanned often I would think.

definitely not.
-under the bed, it would contaminate easily.
-If the box your talking about is cardboard, that would also easily contaminate.
-I would also advise against growing in a house with people who don't approve. Probably would throw it all out making your grow a waste

I would grow edibles instead. Definitely a bad idea under your bed.
Start with edibles and once they are used to the idea toss in some cubes or what have you.
