New and need help (cubes in horse patties)

Ok....I live in Central FL (PM me if you do too!) and I own a horse at a boarding facility. There are grass horse pastures with shade on atleast one side of each pasture. I know that pan subbs grow out of horse shit and that cubes do too occasionally. I haven't really looked (don't want to be too obvious about it) but I was wondering if it would even be worth it to scour the pasture looking for some cubes? I hope I have some success, I'm going to casually walk my horse around some of the pastures to look tomorrow. If it's worth it, I'm going to walk through all the fields and say my horse lost a shoe while he was out :-D Wish me luck. Any info would be very helpful.

I'd give it a try... It's always possible if you're in the right area.

Its rare to find Cubes on horse droppings in fields, although I have found them on rare occasions, however, they absolutely love composting horse manure. Many horse farms shovel the manure from the stables into a certain place and I often find cubes there.

Yes, I'm with Remy on this one. Most cubes would be found in the composting manure. However I have found cubes in the actual horse droppings at the right time of year.

Yeah, after they clean out the stalls, they dump the stuff behind the barn...I'll check there. I think it's supposed to rain today too Thanks for the replies!

I'm a girl There was a shroom special on the news? That sucks! I want to find people to go shrooming with but I'm nervous to go especially with all the cops watching out for that kind of activity.

wouldn't the horse piss that's shoveled out of the stalls pose a pH problem for the shrooms? i owned a horse for many years and i never saw shrooms grow even in the right conditions. maybe if more lime is used when cleaning out the stall? this might cut down on the ammonia and act as a pH buffer.

I know they put down lime when cleaning the stalls to cut down on the odor. I looked in some of the pastures as well as the manure pile behind the barn and didn't find a single shroom. I think it might be because of the dry weather we have been having here in orlando. Not sure, but I'm going to look again after we have had a good rain.

Yeah some of our attempts to find shrooms have been spoiled, the ground just needs to get more saturated i belive, give it a few more weeks, it did rain today, so you might wanna check tomorrow, or somethin, also check near the woods under the trees, if there is any. Good Luck

Yeah, good thing it rained today. There is more in the forecast too, so I'm somewhat hopefull. There is a tree line by all the pastures, so thats where I'm going to look. I need to do it on a day when there is no one there, lol...I don't think that anyone else out there would pick them but ya never know!
