Ive been searching and found a few mushrooms out of rotting debris, and logs that looked just like ovoids so I didnt bring them home. Then I check my pictures on my labtop and they looked identical to ovoids except they didnt bruise at all.

Do any of you ever find ovoids that dont bruise?

Ive also found other look alikes much smaller then ovoids and the stems bruise brown.

Sigh Im gonna keep looking but its been so dry in Southern KY, we got less than an inch of rain last night, is that enough for ovoids?

Im praying for some heavy rains but its april 16th and its only rained lightly a few times where I live. This fucking sucks.

I nearly stepped on a rattle snake, a cotton mouth, and I can't even count the number of non venomous snakes Ive encountered. I currently am balls deep in chiggers and tick bites. Man my luck has blown.

Do any of you ever have to pull apart the debris, logs and move leaf litter to find them? Or do they grow on the surface?

And finally my last question is, The Ohio River, is a 2 hour drive from my house however it is almost the end/mouth of the Ohio River right before it feeds into the Missippi and not up in the Ohio Valley region. Could ovoid mycelium travel that far down the river and would it even be worth checking the banks around that part of the Ohio River.

I would tremendously appreciate some replies.

I found these today down by the Susquehana river on my first hunt. They didnt bruise blue either, but the area was covered in knottweed. Not sure what they are. The picture quality is kind of bad. Im working on getting a new camera

Probably not.  A non-bruising ovoid is probably a Psathyrella.

That only way to know is to go out and check.

Sounds like you are not looking hard enough.

The mycelium travels a lot farther than that.  But if I was looking for them I would check streams near previous finds.  Check the mushroomobserver.org distribution map for P. ovoideocystidiata.

You found Coprinellus micaceus, which competes with the totally tedius tubaria for the title of the worlds most boring mushroom.

they have been in my yard since.I decided to put them in a tub with perlite about 2 weeks ago.Checked on it today and there is plenty of primordia forming and quite a few pins too :awesome: Guess ill take care of these fellas till we get a good downpour

Sure I don't see why not. As long as you don't damage the substrate too much you should be good. I threw in a big handful of some year old knotweed debris for a few days and the mycelium really attached itself fast. I'm currently spawning the knotweed to mesquite chips that were soaked for a day and ill see how that turns out. I leave these outside and take the lid off at night,a few mists here and there helps a good bit. Temps have been in the 60s during daylight and 40s at night.

They always bruise, from blue to black. Pinch the end of the stem if it doesn't show bruising.

I took my girlfriend Surn Bear out for her first hunt the other day. She had a blast and was quite good at spotting them. Despite recent frosts, we got a nice amount of young fresh specimens and saw a whole lot that I had missed last time due to circumstances.

Some nice little clusters...

Way past it's prime..

Little wavy feller...

Anyway, lets see some more pics!!! Obviously they are out in some areas, get out there gents!

I can see it now, I spend the entire time looking straight down, see one out the corner of my eye and reach for it, but then my hand lands on top of Goldens and were both like WTF I saw it first... haha no that would be cool...
