Here's a little motivation for you gentlemen waiting in the wings.
Found this guy April second, a full month before Ovoid season starts normally in these parts.

Looks to be a promising season, the flooding last year seems to have revived them and spread them about. Before and after.

Hearty twins.

The rest of the gang.

Some habitat

An offering to the god of Madness....

Good luck guys! Hope your seasons start soon.

Awesome finds ToeJam, I have only had the chance to go out once so far and since then, the weather has not been nice enough to grant me the conditions I seek before making a very long drive to my hunting grounds.. The one trip I have made did not come up empty handed though.. I think I posted it in this thread... Should be making the trip in a week or so hopefully, weather permitting..

Ive found 3 patches so far first 2 were small, partially buried stick piles, within 5 yards of the waters edge. The next was a big one, looked like a log jam washed ashore. Alot of debri was suspended in these logs and branches so when i started picking and disturbed this loosely packed stuff mushrooms were literally falling to the ground. Bad thing was most of them were rotting. Cant complain though, still come away with an ounce or so dry.
Question. Can i expect more from this site? I removed the rotting ones to get at the survivors but in doing so i really disturbed the mycellium. It and the others appear to be drying up. The pins i left to mature were fried yesterday, and no rain in sight for 7 more days.
Also, I collected the myc that fell out, attached to some of some of these and loose debri and transplanted it to a simlar habitat. Is it possible for it to fruit later this spring?

I am new to this but I might try bringing overnight soaked woodchips and/or some cardboard to soak and leave over the myc spots - my CA patch grows in landscaped woodchips and myc I've collected seems to be loving wet chips and cardboard. Also maybe transplant small shrubs, move logs or rocks or whatever to shade those pins. Plus maybe mist or water the fruiting grounds when you are out there, if they keep getting water maybe they'll keep fruiting.

Sorry, No photos of the patch i described in detail, did post a few of the first haul earlier. Going back this weekend just to check in on them. Temps are warming up and rain is on the way so hopefully there will be more to come. Good advice, wish i would've shown them some TLC during this dry spell. Still its early, and considering the weather here I dont think they've taken off yet. Theres so much of the habitat i found these i its hard to imagine what might be possible here. Very exciting season already.

Jshaman, Just curious what state you're in. I just finished a nice morning walk along a NJ riverbank with lots of knotweed and wood detritus - no signs of any macrofungi even in the moist areas. It's been very dry here and possibly a lIttle "too cool". G

Ditto... waiting for rain in ky. Hit 80 and our big patch melted and there hasn't been a any significant rain since then.
Congrats on all the new finds.

March started out really warm and lots of rain for us. But temps dropped to near freezing and not had any rain in awhile

I left a bunch of babies to mature a little and lost them too

So true. Been a very long time for me and needed to be reprogrammed badly. So after mamy miles everyday after being on them allvday at work i was beginning to think i wasnt going to have any here and I would have to travel. Day before my birthday i reluctantly agree to try some molly as a substitute. Spur of the moment i decide to check out a new area and low and behold they were there waiting. Kept me away from the synthethics. And looking back, finding them was the high point of the entire weekend. Hell, beyond that cant remember the last time i was that excited. My fist ovoids ever. Found cubes in Alabama with a guide forever ago but this was was an entirely different experience.

Went to my prolific spot from last year and found a few tiny dry guys. Then I took a drive up to a different spot along the same river that I had never been to before and found a big patch. They are out, but your wetlands need to be wet.
