Reds are below normal, good luck if you are in those areas. Sauce.
All I've seen are Pluteus sp, they must be drought tolerant.

I guess you should probably label those graphs a little better. Are you saying that precipitation is at least between 10-25% below average for those areas, and in most cases even further below average?
*edit* I figured it out based on my state's data. Precipitation as a percentage of normal precipitation for this time. So bright red means only 10-25% the "normal" amount or rain has fallen in the given time period.

Yeah, the graph is percent of normal, dark red is 0% and fuchsia is 600%. The first image is March, the second is April.

I went hunting anyways. All i found were glistening inky caps and dryad saddle .
Does my habitat pic seem like a decent place. It was last on my list but within walking distance.

How far west and how far south? Not an exact local just county, is that a river or lake?

yep nope my spot still really dry but way more mycilium i gota ask for some reason my mycilium is really really stringy. you can tell the spots that they normally fruit from cause those spots the soil is way way way way more moist and theres kinda the outline of where they fruit from and all that super moist soil has the stringy mycilium in it

Just finding the threads on these. Grew up in South Central PA and pretty sure these were friends of us hippie-billies in the mid-90s so interesting that they weren't ID'd till '03.
Is there a definitive thread/website on the orgin and whether the prevalent thought is that they are a newish species or just went under the radar of science forever?

Went out Friday evening, and once again managed to find a little cluster after I decided to give up because it was getting dark. I didn't even have my flashlight with me, so I don't know how I saw them.

It's been about 10 days with no rain, and we're now under a red flag warning. This is when the NWS declares that the forest you wish to be a lush paradise, is instead capable of spontaneous combustion. Despite the weather people's mocking, these guys looked surprisingly not dried at all. I picked the three largest fruits:

I took the stem butts and added them to my nursery. I don't know if this is common everywhere, but a majority of my finds are growing in very loose sand (almost beach like) from either a tiny piece of wood substrate or no apparent organic matter all. In the latter case, there is a very thick cord of myc that I assume extends down to some hidden debris. I think this find was close enough to the stream that capillary action up through the grains has kept things moist, even with no protection from direct sunlight.
This year is proving my intuition wrong; I've gone out assuming without any rain, the best place to look is in sheltered crevices under logs and thick, nasty overgrowth. Instead, creekside sand dunes with little vegetation seem to be best right now... plus it's soooo much easier. I'm focusing on this, and eroded creek banks until it rains again.
One more thing, be careful how you dispose of this species... those three above made my bedroom walls melt.

i know people who have been finding and utilizing these for a hell of a lot longer than the official id. they just had a different name for them is all.
edit: the reasons i make this claim are: 1.) the area 2.) the potency 3.) the wood loving.
