The habitat of all finds so far this year has been creekside sand bars that have very short ground cover, and clumps of grasses.

looks like a good fly fishing spot as well.
There's nothing but minnows in this stream, it's just not big enough - from source (which is literally a housing development) to where it empties into the Potomac is maybe 10 miles.

All I have to say is Koods is the man!!!!!!
He was kind enough to take me out today for a lesson. And a lesson learned it was.

Enjoy the pics.
Thanks a lot Koods and hope to hunt with you again soon.
Koods was correct. Although we did come across some other mushrooms the ovoids outnumbered them mostly.

So you finally found them Amil? I thought someone had been at that spot! I was just hoping it was you and not some others who know of it. Where are the pics brosef?
And nice finds MacMerdin, once you have seen the type of area they like it's not too difficult with some effort to find more patches! And you got some prints to make now too.

Thanks Toe-Jam.
I now know what you guys ment about it will be all worth it once found. I owe it all to Koods though. Without his help, I'd still be hunting incorrectly.
Happy hunting everyone. I hope I wasn't too much of a pain.....

Macmerdin has gone in one day from "how come I can't find them" to "how could I have not found them."
The best part, he found the first one of the day himself... In less than five minutes! Then, they wouldn't let us leave... We kept on having to stop after calling it a day to pick the ones we weren't even looking for.

I certainly will. Thanks for the welcome.
And Koods is right. I think we found more after we said we were done than we did at first. Lol.

hey koods! you replied to my thread about a possible ovoid habitat earlier this week. just wondering, are the ovoids still popping up abundantly in your area, or are just the last of them fruiting? I went for a quick hunt Friday and it seems I'll have to wait until its a little warmer (probably will be another week or two until its consistently at least 70 high/50 low). I think your temps have been in the 70s this whole past week, no?
anyways, congrats on your finds man. your posts/pics are really helping!

Oh yeah!!
My after-diner haul tonight (two possible wine caps down in the corner):

Something about toads and mushrooms. And Macmerdin and I really noticed the bluing reaction on a lot of our finds today was absolutely stunning. Same thing tonight. Usually, the camera doesn't seem to capture the blue.

We also found this today. It is clearly active, it smells right and it was in the ovoid habitat. It just doesn't look right. Is it just a weird looking ovoid, or something else?

Im glad everyone its finally talking about wine caps two years ago I constantly harped about. Wine caps being with them and how everyone needed to realize they can either spread / both in the same habitat or just pick then I really suggest getting the albino strain tho it taste better

Those were growing next to a debris pile. I still haven't found one growing on a debris pile this season.

I've never seen an ovoid turn up around the margin like that, koods. Has it changed after drying out?

I always found it kinda strange and kind of annoying that there are so few people posting finds from SE Pennsylvania in the Susquehanna River Valley. there are tons of what seem like picture perfect habitats and i have read that this area should be a prime location. This is my second year trying to find them. temperatures here have been on the low side lately, which i think accounts for my bad luck this year, and i've only seen about 4 mushrooms total this year. They should be popping up soon. but is there really no one else hunting this area? in particular im in York County, down near the Muddy Creek. any input anyone?

Hunting forum rule:
4. Do not ask about current finds in your area. These posts have been flooding the forum for years. If you're curious about if mushrooms are growing in your area, get out there and look! Mushrooms don't read the books. Sometimes they fruit outside of season. There is no set date for any season, only vast generalizations. Your best bet is that if it's close to the season for the mushroom you are looking for and its been raining, you just might find some.

Nope, it still looks like that, hasn't dried out too much. I'm printing it right now, so maybe that will reveal more.

I experimented with mine while printing. At first 30-60 minutes the light print was definitely a purple color. 24 hours later and the print looks deep chocolate brown.
Take this info as needed.
