How do you approach people about this kind of thing though? I'm sure they frown upon people asking for information about psilocybes?
Or do I have to infiltrate the society and wait years to get to know people and then broach the subject?:

Why is it so hard to get a print from someone when they are legal?

You would join one and ask about Psilocybes? I wouldn't.

It's not.
Seems to me like you would have more fun growing some cubensis than hunting for actives. It took me four seasons to find any ovoids. Some people get lucky, some less. But if all you want is to trip then you should grow your own.

I've only found the ones I posted above so far. And a few Agrocybes but that is it. As far as I'm aware, there aren't edibles that grow where ovoids do?
A lot of mushrooms are edible, I think you could find some.

I'm right in the middle of 2 points on that map. Plus I'm around Koods.....so I'm assuming I'm in the right areas.
I don't think so. Stop wasting your time hanging out near all those politicians and go camping in Ohio. Find a place where there are a lot of pins on that map in a small area, not just a couple spread out points.

Any idea how to find one? Good idea though.

BTW...why is it so hard to get a print from someone when they are legal? I've asked quite a few people in this thread alone.
Maybe they don't want to spend the time to send prints to a stranger.

But, yet people are talking about picking them and starting spawn which is totally illegal?
It is totally legal to send prints only if the person doesn't intend to grow them.

What would be the point then? To hunt for morels?

I guess I'm three seasons behind then.
Why is it that it takes some people so long to find them but once they do, they can go out and find them instantly?

They are returning to the same patches and immediate area, that's fish in a barrel. Paul Stamets said it took him hundreds of hours to find his first actives. You should adjust your priorities so it isn't too frustrating.

Because once they find them, they know where they grow.

1) meet hot chicks who are into mushroom hunting 2) Learn about edible mushrooms and mycology in general 3) meet other mushroom hunters, attend group hunts, mushroom presentations, etc.

I will be in SW Pennsylvania in two weeks time to camp and hunt.

I can understand that but they don't even have to put a return address, so there's no worries.
Not even spore salesmen (even shroomery sponsers)on the net have ovoids. Mostly everything else but ovoids?

Look, the people who post here generally like hunting for any and all types of mushrooms. It may be the love of psilocybe that brought most here but this a place where we like all kinds of fungus.
The point of a myco soiciety is to meet like-minded people who are into hunting mushrooms, not to learn where a patch of ovoids are. As you said already, that's illegal.
Your asking a bunch of questions that have no answer. Just cuz it took me four years doesn't mean you won't find them tomorrow. Just because I have found some today doesn't mean I'm gonna instantly know where to find more.
Chill out man.

I think you missed what Alan meant by "stranger". Why would I spend four years to find a print and then send it to someone who is too impatient to find them himself?

But if you already had a print from finding them, it doesn't become four years of finding them. I see what you mean but I can buy azure prints from anyone and everyone but yet I've never looked for them. See what I mean?
I just want to study the prints to research them. Why would someone who already has a print to throw away not want to help someone out? It's not like you spent 4 years searching for my print.

That would require 50 cents and a trip to the post office. And its a rather thankless job. I have sent out literally thousands of spore prints and less than 1% were used in the way I had intended them to be used.

Keep at it man, and don't get discouraged. Just being outside and having the opportunity to hunt fungi is nice. It takes time and determination, along with the knowledge to know where to look. Keep at it, study, and before you know it you'll even be surprising yourself.
Plus, it took me over a year to trade for an ovoid print. Sometimes people will give out free prints, but it doesn't happen that often. It's normally a mutual trade without money involved. Alan is totally right, and I'm in the same boat at the moment. I wish more people would actually look at some of the spores under a microscope
-------------------- Having lived through an existence close to nature, one accepts the small and simple things as most important in life. Sun, wind, rain and snow. The sounds birds make, smells of fresh wild flowers. Love of all kinds, from friends and family, thy self and our neighbors. Beautiful sunrises to the darkest clouds dancing above in the sky. To forgive, learn, share and express. This is the only thing a man such as myself can ask for. What comes as the result is nothing short of the core of human existence, to truly live free in body and mind.

I know Alan is the expert, but there is no reason to go to Ohio. Ovoids are everywhere around here. I have yet to return to a patch already discovered. I've been working my creek north to south, and have had zero problem fining what I'm looking for. In fact, like I said elsewhere, if I were looking for something else I would probably be frustrated because ovoids seem to be the only species fruiting en masse.
On another tangent, I have been washing my finds over a bucket just in case I not want to lose anything down the drain. Well, I was looking at the sediment from the other day, and I shit you not, there were flakes of gold. I know there were dozens of gold mines in this area a century ago, and people do pan for gold in the local streams, but I never expected to see any collected on mushrooms.

Makes perfect sense being that ovoids grow on floodplains and near streambeds etc. That is so cool!
