After nearly a month, the rains finally came. Wednesday, an all day drizzle and then the nor'easter, the last two days. It was still raining last night and temps were in the low 40s. I went to a stream on the the way back from Home Depot. No camera, no backpack, nothing but my jacket pockets to carry anything I found.
The news is good for anyone on the east coast: the season is on RIGHT NOW! I found them everywhere I had time to look and there were more than I could take home:

I'm going for a formal hunt shortly, and I think it's gonna be a bounty.

After the rain last Wednesday, it was highs in 70s, lows in 50s until Saturday. I found a fresh patch Saturday night. It had to be from Wednesday's rain because there had been no rain for 3 weeks prior. Then the noreaster hit Sunday, started raining and temps dropped to low 50s on Sunday, and yesterday's HIGH temp was only mid 40's. Storm is gone now, got about 3 inches of rain and it's about 60 degrees out.
Those finds from yesterday were born from last week, but I suspect there has been substantial growth even with the low temps. Regardless, the ovoids are the most prevalent mushroom fruiting right now (at least in the riparian zone), by a large margin.
On Saturday, I found these less than a minute into my search of a new area, and I was back home in 10:

you'd probably want to head towards Paducah. Find some creeks/rivers within about 2-3 miles of the Ohio, and you might just get lucky

This map says they found some in Balboa Park in San Diego... I don't believe it... Is there a way on MO to, when you click on the map, take you to the actual observation??

Temps been pretty low here and very little rain. I'm expecting to find more soon.
Gratz on all the finds.
Also, o the guy that posted the possible psathrylla sp., I've seen those growing while searching for ovoids this year. All ovoids I've found have bruised. Keep looking, and GL!
