that looks like a good spot to me, and if you found them there last year, obviously thats a good sign. OP found some last year between luisville/cincinati, to so I reckon that where he found them at. I'm afraid my patch may have dried up :frown: I can't get out today, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow. It really hurts :frown: that someone else found them first, but obviously they are out. Maybe tomorrow I'll post pics of a massive haul  I think that the weather determines when they could come out, but if the temps are right, but there is no rain, they won't pop. We got 1 1/4 inch of rain last wed/thurs. So I bet they just started after the rain. OP just happened to be in a place that had rain just at the right time and they grew at the first possible time.

OP is gonna have to start a new thread, I'm spamming this one up:lol: Last year when I found them, I didn't start the official thread, because I figured it would be weeks before anyone else found them. I aught to go back and check those dates. The ones I've found ranged from right beside the creek to maybe 30 yards from it, but the distance probably don't matter, if the creek flooded, it pushed all of the debri up the banks and into the feilds, and then the spores would have been dispersed more. I have been watching the same patch for 4 years and they seem to move East every year(the prevailing winds blow east, so the wind is usually blowing east and the spores are blowing east, know what I mean?)
edit; yea, I can't say thats definately a galerina, the pics are blurry, but I can say it is a good one to stay away from

*should have* this map shows that I and many people along the ohio in Ky got 1-1 1/4 inches in the last 7 days, so if you are in the green, it's probably time. I'd say it takes about 6-7 days after the rain stops for the mush to get to full size, so I'd wait 4 days at least after the rain stops, but starting now, I'd just look whenever possible

I doubt it matered. Once the primordia form, they won't stop growing, unless it gets below freezing, so they are either already growing and the temps didn't matter or they hadn't formed yet, and the temps didn't matter

Every authority I've heard speak on the subject implies they only last about 3 years, unless you feed them  I've had a spot for ovoids on MO for 2 years, and no one has tried to intervene, and stop it. I was out for 5 hours today, and I didn't find any:sad:

"wine caps" aren't indigeonous to the US, so unless you are on the west coast, they are extremely extremely rare. They only occur where they have escaped from outdoor cultivation projects.

I've read that, from highly regarded authors. The publications were probably several years old. They are extremely popular, but I've never found one. I was just speaking from what I've read, that information is probably outdated

you'd probably want to head towards Paducah. Find some creeks/rivers within about 2-3 miles of the Ohio, and you might just get lucky

well, I'm no expert, just an amateur. I'd call that brown, but like I said, I'm an amateur. It's definately not an ovoideocystidiata, also, you weren't supposed to look!

Those dark cap ones are similar to ones that I have been finding.  I found a very nice cluster  and there was a black one in it.  I also found a couple black ones together on their own.  I know that ovoids can vary a lot in apperance.  Are these smaller dark caps one of them?  The stem seems to turn bluish.  Any one else finding them like this or are these imposters?

the fact that the cap has fibrils and is not bald and doesn't appear to have a gelatinous pellicle all but rules out Psilocybe IMO

thats the wrong color purple, and it would be blue because it is a stropharia that just displays some blur coloration. The stem is all wrong, no silky longitudinal fibrils. the cap is all wrong, not glaborus, and I don't see a gelatinus pellicle at all. The spores, looking at the gills, are perfect for stropharia, the stem....looks like stropharia
there are several stropharia's that display blue. In my opinion
