Here's some nice knotweed habitat pics new2shroomzz.It wont get that tall or thick till about late april though.Your gonna have to crawl through this delightful jungle to find the big clusters but they tend to grow around the bases of the plant.

Knotweed is not a requirement, if you limit your searches to it you'll be missing patches. They are most likely to grow in any spot where flood debris accumulate, like sharp bends in the creek.

This is true, knotweed is not a requirement. But when all other spots fail dont hesitate to start searching through it.Just be careful of snakes and other critters.I've haven't had an encounter with anything nasty yet but there is still that chance so just be safe out there everyone. And do not forget to check wood mulch beds in areas close to rivers and creeks,i cant stress this enough.

Nice finds everyone  I haven't gone out in a while because i dont think conditions are right in my area yet.I took home a few colonized branches that were found in this habitat last year https://files.shroomery.org/files/12-16/462253383-005.jpg
they have been in my yard since.I decided to put them in a tub with perlite about 2 weeks ago.Checked on it today and there is plenty of primordia forming and quite a few pins too :awesome: Guess ill take care of these fellas till we get a good downpour

yeah there's some colonized stuff if you look at those pictures can i spawn that in a tub? if i just water alot ? these temperatures would do the rest right?

Sure I don't see why not. As long as you don't damage the substrate too much you should be good. I threw in a big handful of some year old knotweed debris for a few days and the mycelium really attached itself fast. I'm currently spawning the knotweed to mesquite chips that were soaked for a day and ill see how that turns out. I leave these outside and take the lid off at night,a few mists here and there helps a good bit. Temps have been in the 60s during daylight and 40s at night.

Is it possible for knotweed to survive a winter, because most of the thickets are waay over my head right now... Can they grow 8 ft by md-April?

Ive never seen it live past december up here"SW PA" It is a very fast growing plant though, its about 4feet in my habitats and growing quick.I always take a machete with me and it slices right through those stalks, makes it alot easier to search.

These were all found in western pa over the last few seasons,in landscaped wood mulch areas. You can see some of them get massive.

These were found about 100 ft from the river bank in a campground area,

Found in mulch bed no where near a river or creek,

Definitely check through landscaped areas in the fall, chances are you'll find them there before you find them in their natural habitat.

Start looking now till the winter gets here. You probably wont find as many as you would in the spring but they do come up in decent numbers.I was finding them in February this year but it wasn't your normal weather either.Pay close attention to wood mulch areas around rivers etc. :goodluck:

When was it a myth? I think there has been quite a few documented finds in the fall over the last few years.

That's weird. Your Ovoid pins look completely different to mine.
(That little pin in my picture is a Ps. cyanescens, not an Ovoid)

These must be two very different Ovoid strains.

October 9, 2012

I agree their not the norm but i dont see what else they could be in this area. I found this patch last November and it fruited till February of this year.Thing is i haven't seen any spring flushes at all, just in the fall and early winter  :confused2: If anybody would like a tissue sample or print to examine i will gladly send it out.Until then im almost certain these are ovoids i just dont understand why they dont put out in the spring.
