Got low on mineral oil and other oils, so I thought up this crazy plan to mix little bits of them together with some other thoughtful ingredients for an even better polish than they could be alone. I just made this recipe up, and it seems to work great for restoring, protecting, and polishing wood to a beautiful finish.
Feel free to experiment, but here's a general guideline: 1part mineral oil -- light and runny so the wood soaks it right up, acts as a general conditioner and polish 1part olive oil -- much heavier oil, very conditioning, helps to prolong and assist water-resistance 1part your choice: tung, linseed, cottonseed, or walnut oil -- hardens up nice when it dries, helps to seal the other ingredients into place, and acts as a highly water-resistant layer 1.5part beeswax -- thickens the final mixture, glues the other ingredients in place when applied, and acts as a highly water-resistant layer 0.25part vitamin e oil -- helps protect against sun damage, conditions the wood, and assists with keeping moisture levels from spiking 0.25part carotene -- helps protect against sun damage, conditions the wood, and assists with keeping moisture levels from spiking 0.5part vanilla extract (yes, the real stuff), or 0.25part your choice of citrus oils -- helps condition, and adds a unique and pleasant scent
Heat this together in a tuna can over the stove on low, or like I did and make a little foil boat. You just need to mix it up, and make sure the beeswax melts into everything else.
If you add citrus, pine, or especially vanilla extract -- be sure to agitate and stir the mixture like hell as it is cooling down to better disperse these ingredients which may be resting on the bottom or the surface.
There is a good recipe online for a basic mix, which is 4:1 mineral oil to beeswax. Seems to be a favorite. This is a good base or standard to follow, though I couldn't help but throw in some other ingredients. I encourage others to experiment!
I even threw in some pine resin, stirred it with the hot mixture with a turkey skewer, and then pulled it out before it solidified. This seemed to add some pine oils/resins to the final mix, even though most of the solids were removed before they hardened into a resinous concrete.
With the pine oil, lemon oil, and vanilla extract, my polish smells a bit like orange-cream popsicles

That is definitely an interesting combination. I am not sure I would have trusted myself to come up with something like that, but I might try this. Thanks!

cool recipe, i was just needing an oil for some woodwork, ill give yours a try as most of the ingredients you listed are about..
from experimenting and reading, ive gathered, mixing in iron dust will give a red hue, mixing in charcoal will bring out the under-grain (in a dark tone), and gum turpentine draws the stain deeper in.
I attempted to use baby oil and linseed on red pine but the baby oil made a splotchy mess that had to be sanded off...?
thanks for sharing, if you come up with any more recipes, please post them here, if you find any fails, those are appreciated also.
