I should probably make a few prints of the Aucklandii next time I pick some. I haven't heard of anyone having any luck cultivating them though; they're very finicky mushrooms.

Other members of Psilocybe section Zapotecorum have been cultivated, so it's likely to not be too difficult.

How is Wellington doing? Cause I spent a fair amount of time in the Town Belt and found nothing =( Actually there were a few cool looking mushrooms but not what I was after. Yet to get my first find despite looking last season and this so a PM would be awesome with a hint or two if anyone could.
Happy hunting guys

Another pick from the same spot... Thousands (literally) of babies sprouting in a few distinct patches. 1-week and i might have a 1000+ cap haul. And that's leaving as much as taking.

I must be a walking spore machine, found yet another patch of p.inskii's at a sub patch thats been over-run with random mushrooms everywhere. Only about ten but hey, it was a surprise. I did take photos but my camera didnt save them and now theyre dry and unappealing.

Another person in Wellington here with no luck. I've spent all my free time in the last 5 weeks searching around every park, cemetery and nature reserve radiating out from Wellington City discovering plenty of different mushrooms with the exception of the Psilocybe genus. Definitely very frustrating.
The only thing I've found so far that has had definate blueing is the solitary mushroom below, found on a grassy hill, with a white spore print. ID would be appreciated.
If anyone has any suggestions or encouragement to give, a pm would be much appreciated.

blazeyboarder said: So as most people have probably heard it's been snowing down south, what does this mean for shrooms? I havent found any yet this season, but i was told today by some guys that the season was over here and they had gone looking but only found rotten ones, so i was wondering if shrooms grow prity much all winter round?
Seasons still go for us, i got myself a mini haul of subs and a couple of the undescibed specimens, not much but theyre still popping up.

Homebrew is the best
I'm a little unsure, how much longer should the season go on for in NZ? Looks like we're finally in for a bit of rain.

Those are Psilocybe aucklandiae, now all of my hints should make sense
Next time try harvesting one of the fruit bodies by digging around the base until you reach the very bottom of the stipe, this species has a long flexuous pseudorhiza which in simple terms is a long rooting stem that can be almost as long as what you see above ground, the smell of this species is very distinct, I liken it to the smell of boiled potatoes, if you are interested in the affects of psilocybin you will find these very interesting.
