The straw is not straw it's a type of hay
    #1597298 - 05/31/03 11:38 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

Hey all you Psilocybers!!!! A friend of mine recently bought this stuff that was dried bermuda grass. It was hay they told him at the store but was equivalent to a wheat straw.

What do you all think about the hay. Think it'll grow the little mycellium........

>hay is straw..

That?s nonsense.

Hay is dry mown tall grasses, a mixture of several different plants.
Hay has a grayish, greenish appearance.

Straw is the remains of culture plants like wheat or rye.
Straw?s color is golden.

The difference between straw and hay is that Straw has had the grain(seed) removed from the plant(grass) leaving the straw. Hay can be the same plant(grass) with the grains(seed) still attached. Straw is better because it is not as prone to contamination as the hay and it higher nutrition grain. As many know grains can not be pasteurized as effectively as the straw alone so hay is not a good choice.

That is the way it was explained to me by the guy I buy bundles from. Apparently it wasn't "nonsense" to the farmer. The hay I buy is a golden color.

I grow on hay and it works fine. Who knows.. Sounds like a lot of misinformation on everones part here in this tread.

Yeah, the stuff he got was a golden color as well. He said there was some greenish colored hay but the kind he bought was a nice golden color.

I'm going to post a pic of it.

Keep in mind that the farmer and landscape supplier are trying to sell you something...and also in some areas the two are intermixed words...in the south they are a generic term for a bundle of weeds to throw out on grass seed
