Looks simple enough. The dart will be the hardest part to make. I'm going to use store bought dowels for those, but the handle will be made from natural wood.

i'm a flint knapper, and the glass buttes knapp in should be happening right now here in oregon. i was going to go but i'm afraid i can't get my trailer in there with the mucky roads. you'll find knappers by the dozens and people targeting hay bails with handmade bows and atlatl. i just might have to show up still. it's driving me nuts!

knapp ins happen over there too. there's one in north carolina in september. you can find it online. you don't have to be a knapper to go.

flintknappers.com has probably the most extensive list for this year's knap-ins.

Gurubushhippie, almost no one knows what a an atlatl is. An atlatl is an aztec specialized throwing spear used for huting and sport-U can see some in the film Apoclolpto where they tried to chase jaguar paws and freinds after the sacfrice near the maize feilds.

the atlatl is not a spear, but basically an extension of your arm that throws a large dart. it was used before the invention of the bow. it's deadly accurate and fast.

If someone has experience with one they know what it its. Those who know nothing about it aren't who I want tips from.

It's also been around way longer than the aztecs. It was used by the earliest humans.

i can't see why anyone would want to buy all of those materials, when you can make a truly authentic one in a few hours out of wildcrafted materials.
