    #1596723 - 05/31/03 04:49 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

I was wondering if these look ok they were place in fruiting chamber about a week ago with a consistent 71 degree and 95% humidity and double end cased with vermiculite and peat moss also cold dunked for 24 hours prior to birth this is how they have stayed now for 3 days no change?
Thanks

yeah, just wait a little while... have they showed any signs of pinning yet? I would spray with hydrogen peroxide to keep contams down unless your absolutely sure they wont get contaminated from the casing layer.

Ok good was worried about the massive bumps all over why is it not a good idea to use peat moss in the case mix?

The bumps, depednign on what kind they are, may be mushrooms without heads. that sometimes happen. You dont really want to use peat because its dirty and there is no need. It might hold more water but that just might water log the cakes.

Is that perlite on the cakes? It could be. If that isnt perlite, then they are mushrooms without heads, I forgot the name for them.

Those don't seem to be headless mushrooms, looks like they are doing fine. A foaf's cakes look the same after a little time in the fruiting chamber, should be anytime now. Just be patient.

yea it looks like hella fuzzy mycelium, although I've never seen it look like that before. I've also never seen anyone double case a cake with peat and verm before. Don't you have to pH balance peat since it's acidic? Could be a cause of that mycelium formation. Just a passing thought.

Nope its not perlite just looks like bumpy mycelium i do not see and heads on the bumps either

yes i did use a ph test kit and added horticultural hydrated lime to balance at 7 this was left over casing material i decided to put on cakes

yah dont use peat again. there is no true use...unless you wanted to give it some nutrients. But even that isnt really needed. Just be patient then. If the bumps dont feel like mushroom masses, then just be patient.
