Heat control?
    #1595494 - 05/31/03 01:01 AM (20 years, 8 months ago)

I set up a incubator in a cooler with a fish tank heater screwed into a medium sized bottle (large size md2020) and I just got a scare when I took out my jars and they had shrivled up grain and no growth in parts. I thought it was mold of some kind until I noticed its all on the sides that were facing my mini heater. The problem is they were just at the right temp and if I turn it down they will be a bit too cool. A heating pad wouldnt be controlable like the fish tank heater. What would work that has a thermostat of some kind on it?

If you spend a little extra $$$ at the pet store you can buy aquarium heaters with floating thermostats. I use one in my tropical fish tank for keeping the water at a constant 82 degrees.

Im not sure if I follow you, the heater I have in the bottle now has an adjustable thermostat. The problem is in order to put off enought heat to keep the whole cooler at the right temp the bottle itself gets too hot and kills the parts of jars that are closest to it. Its not even a very big cooler anyway. I need to find some effective remedy and something that will work with economy size bags of spawn too.
