Grain Problem
    #1595746 - 05/31/03 08:34 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Hi. My bud apologizes in advance seeing as this is not an advanced question, but he is sick of rookie answers in the basic forum. My friend is working with grains. He uses 1L jars. He fills 1.5/4 of jar with whatever grain. (tried many, still happens) adds water to a little above the grain amount. he pressure cooks (water in pc is just touching 1inch of the bottom of each jar. after the pressure cooking is finished, it appears that 3/4 of the grain is in a mushy state, while the top 1/4 is looking decent. thats the problem...how 2 solve???  next question, is when he shakes the jars, nothing moves, lol. and its still slightly warm. lol. he thought of possibly soaking the grain for maybe 8 hours in hot water, and then filtering the other shit out, and then following through with the pressure cooking, just to remove the stickiness.  would that be sufficient?

Try precooking the grain before adding to the jars.
Could be possible you are using too much water
per your description.

Peace to Everyone,

Try to precook grain, drain it and then fill the jars and sterilize.
Add gypsum to prevent clumping and make it shakeable.
