Self-incrimination @ shroomery?
    #15950774 - 03/15/12 12:47 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Hi, I recently checked out another drug realted forum and they have some really strict rules about "self-incrimination." Most people use this acronym, "SWIM" which means "Someone other than me" on their posts or they use other clever phrases like, "My pet iguana told me it had a dream and saw colors.." etc.. so that the internet feds can't really prosecute the person for stating that they did drugs or sold drugs or anything with drugs. But here on shroomery, everyone is pretty open about their "trips" and how they grow their shrooms or plants. They even post pictures. I think I have  once. So anyway, are the people or moderators from those websites really know the rules and laws of self-incrimination over the interenet or are they just paranoid and rather not deal with it? What about shroomery, are we more rebellious and don't give a fuck because nothing's really going to happen or are these "self-incrimination" laws bogus and we just don't give a fuck? I'm not a afraid or anything, just curious you know. Thanks.

SWIM = Somebody Who Is Me

In other words, feds have known about this for years and are probably used to people doing this, and probably can easily prosecute.

Hmm, I was wondering about this the other day

Connection of a shroomery account to a social online account, not the SWIM thing

Also, about PMs: I was chatting with a dude the other day and he hinted that encryption can be used. What is the significance of such a thing? Without encryption or proxy could my IP be traced

Maybe I'm just being paranoid but, having dealt with some truly insane people in my life, it might just be a good thing

The shroomery seems like a truly open minded place, I'm not at all used to such a thing
I didn't believe it could exist a while ago

Trust has always been an issue due to the circumstance

It's not illegal to have done drugs. Those other forums are retarded.

"Yeah so my pet iguana is producing 53 lbs of meth, uhh, where can the iguana sell it?"

Then..

last time i checked, nothing said in a message board like this was legally binding.

THat is to say, just your words here would not be considered an admission of guilt.

I mean... if you're dumb enough to talk about your giant illegal mushroom grow and post photographs for the world to see, AND you do this from your home computer not using a proxy.... you're just asking for trouble.

IDK you'd be surprised.  Any time they can get an easy-to-prosecute case they take it to get their arrest and conviction rates up.  Makes it look like they're doing their job well when they have stats and that gets them more funding while keeping the people higher up the ladder in their little bureaucracy in power.

I'm not up to date on internet law but from what I understand anything you post in the internet = a publication. same thing with text messages. looking up posts on a forum would be just like finding a manila folder in a file cabinet saying that Enron was doing illegal accounting or whatever.

However, most of the people on this website are users and most of the posts are not drug related really. The feds would have to sift through a lot of small fish to get anyone worth prosecuting. Local law enforcement probably doesn't have the money to pay someone to surf the shroomery all day looking for someone in their area to bust for a grow. I think we are pretty safe because of those two things.

Unless youre producing 25lbs dried of shrooms a week, i REALLY doubt the feds are gonna come knocking. most of us here grow for personal use
