having trouble with humidity

i have my SGFC in my closet and i also have a cool mist ultrasonic humidifier in the room with the terrarium. my hygrometer keeps reading 85% and wont really go any higher. i have 2-3 inches of perlite in my chamber and one of my cakes is getting white fuzzy stuff on the bottom. i didnt take a pic of it but here's what my setup looks like:

I did dunk and roll my cakes but my roommate knocked the cakes over and they lost a lot of the verm. im thinking about going to buy another hygrometer but i had another one that would only read 85% so im worried that its not the instrument and my humidity is just low. im also wondering whether or not having that humidifier in there is even a good idea.

fuzzy stuff sounds like too much humidity.

you need to calibrate your hygrometer.  There's a link somewhere about that.

probably your hygro. I had the same issue then went and bought a decent cigar hygro, calibrated it and now it reads 90-95% all the time. make sure you leave the door open to that closet or something to get sufficient FAE
