SOLVED! Tub cake stalling (Uncased) :DDD
    #15936020 - 03/12/12 12:51 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I was having difficulty with this grow.
The whole bottom 3" of the tub had colonized nicely with almost no FAE.
It was waterlogged a tad, so I took off it's cover, placed into another bigger tub and added intake and outlet ports to the outer with a 200ma PC fan at the inlet. As it dried it slowly began consolidating to be more cakelike, it pulled away from the sides slowly. Well for the past week I've had the US humidifier directed at the intake on low 24/7 keeping humidity at 88-97% with 5k and 6.5k 23w bulbs running 12/12. It pulled from the walls more and the surface is just riddled with knots and clumps of white, but they remained stalled and kept to the substrate. After reading a similar post today and a comment RR made saying that constant FAE with constant humidity is bad because the #1 pin trigger is evaporation from the surface. So I left the inlet fan on 24/7 and switched the humidifier to full output for 30 min. on, then 30 min. off. With this setup, the fog always hits the outside of the inner tub preventing fog from hitting cake. Well, sure enough I'm watching my remote sensor hit 99% humidity by the end of the ON cycle, and drop down 30% between. That with the lighting and constant FAE which I control with polyfil in the outlet port, works!! I just checked on it, 6-8 hours since the change, and those knots and bumps are already climbing upwards, instead of sitting in their cozy web of surface myco. Hoping for the best, this could be my first successful grow! I'll upload pics if interested. This is definitely a learning experience, evaporation is NECCESSARY! Thanks RR for your forum advice!
