err.. well dark side of the moon is not a song, it an album..BUT, anyways, if you like echoes, i would try any thing from wish you were here (shine on, welcome to the machine) or you might also like One Of These Days (from meddle)...

There are really four periods to Pink Floyd...

1) The Early Syd Barret Psycho-delia
2) Post-Barret Experimentation and Collaborations '67-'73
3) The Roger Waters Concept Period '73-'82
4) The Post Waters stuff '83+

I like the first three, but they are all different...

It soujnds like you like #3, the Waters period. I would suggest anything off of Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, Wish you Were Here, The Wall, Final Cut.

You may want to investigate his solo work, as well. You may like Amused to Death...

I think it's kind of sacrelige to make mix tapes of floyd because they usually made albums that flow together so well. I've definately got particular tastes when it comes to the Pink, though... meddle is my all time favorite and wish you were here is good too. Also try Animals, definately an underrated album.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Meddle
Animals
Dark Side of the Moon
Wish You Where Here
The Wall
Shine on you Crazy Diamond

I would Buy these, if you like floyd you'll end up with all of them sooner or later anyways, don't bother wasting your money on that Gilmour stuff he did with producers trying to capture the Pink Floyd sound.

Start with Dark Side of the Moon.

My personal favourite is Wish You Were Here.

Adom-Shine on You Crazy Diamond is a song on Wish You Were Here, not an album. I agree with your suggestions, though.

Wish You Were Here is my favorite too. No matter how many times I've heard it before, listening to the entire album straight through, in one sitting, is just pure bliss. The music is just so soothing. Gah, I'm high and I can't think of any adequate way to explain how good it is. Even though it only has 5 songs it's worth the $15. And I read an article a couple weeks ago where David Gilmour said his favorite album of Floyd's was Wish You Were Here. So, yea, buy it.

i must disagree with you papaver, i would put "post syd experimentation" up to about 1971, "ending" somewhere around either atom heart mother or meddle. and the next phase (darkside and WYWH, and maybe animals), 1972 - 1976ish, i would say is really the "colaborrations" era, where the band was actually working as a team (gilmour and waters at least), and what make those albums so good is it evenly distributes gilmours amazing musical genius with waters lyrical mastery. from the wall on to the final cut (witch isnt really pink floyd's work, it labled on the CD as "a album written by roger waters and performed by Pink Floyd) is the "waters dominated era".

at least to me, there hasnt been a 'real' pink floyd since the wall.

IMHO...Floyd albums in order from best to worst

1.Dark Side of the Moon
2. Wish You Were Here
3.Piper At the Gates Of Dawn
4.Atom Heart Mother
5.Animals
6.Meddle
6.The Wall
7.Saucerful of Secrets
8.Ummagumma
9.More
10.Obscured By Clouds
11.The Division Bell

Everything before the Wall (excluding soundtracks) is great, but after that,Floyd hit the shitter.

For the new Floyd fan, I would suggest getting Darkside of The Moon,Wish You Were Here, and the Wall,as they are all masterpieces. If you are still interested I would then pick Piper At The Gates of dawn to hear some excellecent psychedelia and Barrets influence on the band. After that you should get Animals, which is all around one of their best, but probably the least experimental. If your still interested after that, pick up some of their more experimental stuff like Meddle,Ummagumma,Atom Heart Mother, and Saucerful of Secrets-which are all great and unique.Unless you're a diehard fan, stay away from the Division Bell and anything after the Wall.

Actually, I really like The Final Cut, but then I like all of the Roger Waters solo work too! I'm still waiting for him to release that damned Opera of his, he's been talking about for the past 6 years...

I missed The Wall tour because I was too young to go to LA and see it, but I did see Roger's Pros and Cons of Hitch-Hiking tour in Oakland in 1984. That was an excellent show! Lots of Films and props and stuff!

Floyd is always good, through every part of their career from Arnold Layne to High Hopes. Of course, this is from an absolute Floyd junkie. Listen to a few highly listened to songs from each of the albums. Then, select albums and not songs. If you like a single song off of dark side or the wall then I'd buy the album.(wait, I already did) Floyd made albums, not songs and as such I have yet to see a great a collection that can flow the way an album can. For example, a collection of great dance songs was good, but there was no flow. Die hard floyd lovers know what I'm talking about.

My short list would be Dark Side, The Wall, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Division Bell( hold off on the last one until you hear some of it).

Pink Floyd litterally changed my life. Up until I heard Dark Side in 9th grade,I was totally different. I had little self esteem and I tried to be like everyone else,I listened to bad rap music,etc...I was at a friend's house (he wasn't really a good friend at the time, just a neighborhood kid I hung out with when I was bored.),anyway,he put on Dark Side and I remember hearing "Breath" for the first time.It was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard. That shit litterally blew my mind,it was like my first trip or something, but without drugs. Just hearing Dark Side in my head during the day, made me see beauty in things I hadn't seen before. I realized that weird wasn't so bad. I know it sounds corny, but it's the truth. I consider hearing Floyd for the first time to be first drug experience, even though no drugs were involved.

anything from Meddle especially One of these Days, Fearless, A Pillow of Winds and Echoes.

A Saucerful of Secrets is a cool album, so is the Divison Bell and practically every other one... we all know about Dark Side of the Moon and the Wall

I can't believe nobody mentioned the album "Momentary lapse of reason" It isn't my favorite but it's right up there. It was one of the few records my rommate had when I was in college. Listening to Floyd in the dark on LP and watching the calibration light reflect off the wall andslightly rise and fall.....

on acid it was just about a religious experience
