Thermometer/Hygrometer?

I tried looking into good Themo-hygrometers but everything seems to be outdated. I found this: Taylor 1528. It seems to be what I need, but wanted to know if others have had experience with this or if it's crap. I know Taylor 1438 or something used to be the one everyone seemed to rave about, so I'd assume this company would be good.

Don't waste your money on it - the simple analog hair hygrometers are more accurate when properly calibrated.

Thanks, unfortunately I already spent my money on it. Just wanted to know if I should go through the trouble to return it. I wanted something convenient so I could set the sensor in my monotub and just see the temp/humidity without leaving my bed.

Well in that case you may want to just keep it and also get a hair hygro - the wireless THERMOMETERS are great - I use one for the room temp and the remote sensors for agar fridge temp and my outdoor organic garden greenhouse - I especially like seeing the MIN/MAX temps for a given day/night - but those types of digital hygros are only good for determining living room comfort levels, etc. - they aren't accurate enough for mycology. You could always get a hair hygro for your your tubs and use the digital one to check your ambient room humidity.

Gotcha, so I'll cancel the order in that case. I got an analog hygrometer from petsmart, not sure if that will be accurate enough. If not, would my local cigar shop have a good enough one?

You want one that you can calibrate via the small hole in the back. I bought mine from a cigar shop on Amazon and I think they work excellent. Only $5.

Just make sure it's a hair hygro and not a cheesy spring operated one.
(EDITED: use paper towel calibration method mentioned below)

The salt method of calibration is inaccurate for our purposes since we require a higher level of humidity.

Use the paper towel method.
"Shampoo is better. I go on first and clean the hair." "No, conditioner is better. I leave the hair silky and smooth." "Oh, really, fool? Really."

Well I will definitely look into both methods. Can anyone provide me a link to a paper towel calibration? I'm feeling a tad lazy from tripping last night haha

Paper Towel TEK
Materials Needed: Paper towel Jar (w/lid) or Ziploc bag Water Small screwdriver from an eyeglass repair kit
Soak the paper towel in the water. Ring out excess water. Wrap the towel around favorite hygrometer. Store in bag for a couple of hours. Remove from bag. Dial hygrometer to 100%
You have just calibrated your hygrometer using the paper towel method.
