Odor of matsutake (cinnamon).
Pleurocystidia 25 – 32 × 6 – 10 μm.
Spores smooth, inequilateral, almond shaped, no germ pore, 9 – 10 × 5 – 6 × 5 μm.
Cheilocystidia 42 – 55 × 14 – 19 μm.
Cactu found this and brought it to me. Host tree is unknown but is likely hardwood.

Under pine.
Extremely strong odor both fresh and dried. Hard to describe, kind of kind dried shrimp.
When I picked this collection I put it in a paper bag and left it on the dashboard. The next morning I was driving and my car smelled awful. I accused my friends of leaving something rotting, but they wouldn’t fess up. The car smelled awful, like an ocean of dead seafood. Later I realized it was my mushrooms and apologized to my friends.

Psilocybe muliercula
2600 meters elevation.
Growing on a well decayed pine log, on a trail.
Pleurocystidia 18 – 21 × 4 – 6.
Cheilocystidia 20 × 4.
Lamellar trama regular, with elements 25 – 50 × 7 – 10.
Basidium 25 × 6.
Spores 6 – 7 × 3 – 4 × 3.5 – 4.
Pileipellis interwoven, with elements 2 – 5 wide. At a depth of 50 from the surface the cells start to get thicker and more irregular. Pileus trama interwoven and very irregular.

the Phylloporus phaeoxanthus doesn't look like the picture labeled Phylloporus phaeoxanthus var. phaeoxanthus in "Toward a revision of the genus Phylloporus...." do you know what's going on at the base? growing from buried acorn? wild mushroom.

Yea its probably something else. I couldn't find a better match though.
It is growing in leaf litter.
The mountain is Pico de Orizaba, the highest mountain in Mexico and the second most prominent volcanic peak in the world. It separates Veracruz from Oaxaca; this is my last Veracruz thread for this year. I plan to check it for mushrooms this June.

I would like to see them, but I haven't seen any yet. Too busy hunting mushrooms most days.
There are some good ones near Mexico City, and I hang out in Mexico City a lot.

Visiting would be an awesome experience.
it would not be a physical break, getting there and climbing up the steps or even going from object to object would be exhuasting. You'd probably need to rest from visiting the city, let alone from working in the forests.
I hope you can visit when you have more time.

i never heared of p. muliercula before, you always make good work
i love the intense colour of the lactarius indigo 
and the landscape pics are wonderfull again too

The tree is Taxus globosa, a very rare evergreen that contains the cancer drug taxol. We were with some biologists who were studying it. They attached a data logger to the tree which recorded temperature, humidity and wind speed.
The ties in the tree are markers. You can also see some purple photosensitive paper thumb tacked to the branches. They returned in 3 days to collect the paper and quantify how much sunlight the tree was getting.
