a fully colonized jar will appear almost completely void of mycelium after it's shaken. it's ok, the mycelium will recover! no need to wait any longer, pour the broken up rye into your tub (or tray or whatever) after shaking.
yay. thank you!

each tiny drop of MS spore solution has hundreds or thousands of spores. There is NO way you gonna separate them by shaking. you WANT to distribute the spore water around the grain, so it will colonize through out the jar, not just at the points the spore solution trickles down

If you're going to shake the jar at 25% or so colonization anyway to distribute the myc, maybe it helps that you have a clump of myc instead of a bunch of isolated growth spots. Honestly, I don't know for certain. All I can say is it works for me.

ChromeCrow I think u and everyone who agree's with you are wrong...This is straight outta RR's notebook>>>> *Shaking right after inoculation is a mistake. You should allow the spores to germinate in close proximity to each other so they can pair up and become dikaryotic. Monokaryotic mycelium is thinner and much slower growing than dikaryotic mycelium. By shaking the jar, you required it to colonize with the slower growing monokaryons. SHAKING GRAIN JARS
