anyone tried grain on agar?
    #15927027 - 03/09/12 10:14 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hey there

I have searched the boards and I have not found anything
about this method. Left over agar lead me to experiment.

-I made some agar and had some extra left over (in a quart jar)
-I decided to inoculate the agar and colonized it
-Finally I pored about a 2in layer of sterilized WBS

I am hoping to colonize the small amount of grain fully
and use it to colonize other substrate.

Has anyone tried this?

Is there a flaw to this method I'm not seeing?

Thanks

So you've got some agar that's already set up/solid, you inoculated it... waited for it to colonize, and then you poured bird seed on top?

If that's the case and everything is sterile, I imagine it'll work. It might be helpful to break up the agar with something and get it dispersed throughout the birdseed for faster growth.
