how many times do you shake rye grain jars before they're considered "fully colonized"?

My jars all looked like the one on the left but when I shake them up against a phone book they look like the one on the right. Do I have to keep incubating them or is it that once it has looked like the one on the left at least once, it's good to go into the tub?

you should only shake after 100% to spawn it to your sub,u'll just stress the myc the more times you shake and break that shit.
BTW i shake twice, once after inoculation, and again at 50% or so well 3 times if you count the shake before spawning

Shake them once when they are a 1/3 colonized, after they look like the jar on the left, let it sit for another day or two, then shake it before you spawn to bulk,,, so only shake once whilst colonizing!!!

You should also shake your jars after they've coolled down after PCing. It distributes the moisture.

I've heard to shake before inocculation, but not right after because the myc has to mate to grow and shaking cause the myc to work harder searching the whole jar for a mate instead of one point of inocc,, I could be wrong,, good luck with yer grow

If you're using a MS syringe, don't shake. You can shake it if you are using LC.

there wouldnt be any myc to stress right after innoc just spores

I assumed he was using a MS syringe. Dont shake it after inocculation using a MS syringe. You can shake with LC, a MS syringe needs to find a mate to start producin Myc, LC is already mated spores "Myc" so thats y u can shake it.

there is an absolutely huge orgy going down in a jar,by the millions, using MS, shaking just makes it a little less likely to run into your neighbor is all,but it will still happen

also spores do not have to meet to start making myc, monokaryotic myc forms and soon meet another to form a dikaryotic structure, afterwards somatogamy will take place, after this the myc will produce "fruits" once introduced to the right conditions

Copy and paste much?? anywhoo thats the round about point i was trying to make, shaking with a MS syringe will take longer to colonate

i prefer to read books and try to educate plp on what i can recall is all,not copy and paste on a computer, and you are right about one thing, a liquid culture solution will colonize faster than a multi spore solution do to the fact that an LC does not have to germinate from spores like the MS.

I said that. If you allow the spores to stay together, they'll colonize quicker rather than spreading them all over. It gets you to point where you shake your jars to spread the myc faster. I've read read this in recent posts from RR and other trusted cultivators. I also practice what I preach, and I've definitely noticed a much faster growth rate by not shaking my jars after noccing them up with MS.

Here's a tip I've learnt from personal experience. If you are planning to store some in the fridge for later use then shake them up before storing them in the fridge. It's a bitch trying to shake them up again after taking them out of the fridge.

a fully colonized jar will appear almost completely void of mycelium after it's shaken. it's ok, the mycelium will recover! no need to wait any longer, pour the broken up rye into your tub (or tray or whatever) after shaking.
